Tropes/Themes:
-MF fantasy/paranormal romance
-Fae MMC x Human/Siren FMC
-Age gap
-Fated mates
-Angsty
-Slow burn
-Singular POV
-Book #1 in a series (must be read in order)
I guess this was fine, but it felt like nothing actually happened?? Things will really need to pick up from here to make me want to continue on in the series.
CWs for sexual violence, torture, murder
Story: 3/5
Audiobook: 3/5 (narrated by Chelsea Stephens)

Just finished this book and I really, REALLY liked it.
Des aka 'The Bargainer' is badass, his quips and inappropriate comments at pretty much anything had me smirking like an idiot more than usual.
I wanted to like Callypso, but she was just too contrary to common sense I guess. I understand where she's coming from, but in some cases I was baffled at her lack of common sense...
That being said, I would still love to know more about everything and everyone.
This book felt like a romancy prequel to what should have been the major plot point: the disappearance of the Fae and the casket women and children.
Finding out about the Thief of Souls was thrilling, but I was disappointed when the entire plot line seemed to be shoved to the background in favor of the romance. Don't get me wrong, I liked the romance but something as significant as a major villain shouldn't get pushed aside like that.
I hope the sequel will expand on the actual plot some more now that the two main characters are finally together (the reasoning behind that actually made me tear up).
I love the writing style and really, REALLY want the second book RIGHT NOW!

I always enjoy a shadow daddy and Des did not disappoint. This was a good read that I enjoyed. I love the supernatural underworld mixed with fae and changelings and I'm curious to see how they interact with the human world. It's briefly mentioned that humans have an idea of the supernaturals but I think there could be more to it.
I appreciate the explanation for Des leaving Callie. I figured it was going to be the usual reason we see in most book but I was actually surprised and it made more sense for the story than what I was expecting.
The spice level is about a 2.5. Could've had more.

An all around enjoyable book and I'll read more of the series.
