An uplifting addition to this series!

Still not a fan of how Jason's death is used. It feels so disingenuous, like he only exists as the thing to keep Apollo going here. I thought Frank would die in his sacrifice and it would be more of a "This is a darker journey than our past ones" thing but nope he survived. I'm glad he survived! It just makes Jason's death still feel so senseless.

Levinea was another good example of a "useless" power getting a lot of recognition for being more than what their godly parent was known for.

Hazel had a good role as a leader here, her becoming praetor made a lot of sense.

Love Reyna getting to find her way. She's earned it. Not a fan of her aspecness being framed as some kind of divine curse but I'm glad she sees that it's really not. I feel her so much with describing joining the hunters as a vacation, and wish her all the rest and reflection she needs.

Loved all the bits about "demigods with access needs" in the senate. Riordan has truly grown as a person with his books, and it's wonderful to see them continue to reflect all the things he learns.

Found this one to be a slog up until the 300 page mark. Then it provided one of the best action sequences I’ve seen Uncle Rick write.

Wish the first bit was condensed and we got more in depth Reyna lore instead.

You would think that after twenty books (and who knows how many short stories/novellas) of demigods and quests that I would be tired of it... Especially since that's only the ones from Uncle Rick and doesn't take into account similar stories.

But nope. This universe and these characters never fail to entertain and delight. Starting book 5 now because I just can't to see how this turns out!

I’m sensing a pattern with these books which is that I’m not super invested in the first 30% but then I start liking them. But let me be clear here, I was very bored with the first third of this book. I’m just so glad that this wasn’t yet another full quest book and focused on the big battle instead in the second half.
At the end of the day, these books always work for me. They are fun, quick, action-packed reads with good pacing (once you make it through those first 30% ofc). This series isn’t gonna be a fav like pjo and hoo but that’s okay! I’m still having a good time.
