Here I am having read this just 3 weeks after losing my own Golden to cancer in what seems like a very similar way. What a blessing and a joy she was, though I continue to miss her with every single passing day and every beat of my heart. This book was a bit of a balm to my own shattered and grieving but slowly healing heart. Thank you, Dean Koontz, for sharing your story (and Trixie’s) so that others might find some comfort through the loss of their own heart dogs.

I laughed, I cried (on the T), I commiserated. Dean Koontz wrote this beautiful book for and about his beloved dog, Trixie. She had a great life, full of all the finest things (20+ toy Christmases, private pools, entrance into California's nicest restaurants, etc) and a loving family. Anyone who has ever had a dog can appreciate and enjoy this book and, while I may never read any of Koontz's other books, I would recommend this all around.

Such a different book for Koontz. I'm used to his scary stuff and this was such a touching book about his pup! Sweet, sad, all kinds of emotions in this one!

I like Dean Koontz as an author. I like dogs. This booked seemed to be a happy blending; and it was.

As a mom of three goldens, two that have crossed Rainbow Bridge, I totally relate to the wonder and joy that they bring to our lives. RIP Samson and Delilah. I hope that you were able to meet Trixje.

I would rate this book higher, but the author was unlikable in my opinion. He had strong opinions that missed the mark for me and I don’t know if it was meant to be a little funny or charming how adamantly he proclaimed some statements about his beliefs or about his interpretations of his dog- but again it wasn’t a hit for me.
He also makes a plug for every book he ever authored and battles with sharing the spotlight with the main character of the book.
Read “Marley and Me” instead!

Loved it. Any human who has had a canine companion will recognize so much of him/herself in this heartfelt journey.
