It’s books like this that made me a fantasy reader in the first place. Creel is a bold, headstrong character with a big heart. With the threat of war, dragon battles, and her in the mix it’s absolutely a fun read. And she is not the only bold character in the bunch.
As compared to the first [b:Dragon Slippers|669570|Dragon Slippers (Dragon Slippers, #1)|Jessica Day George|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1316730294s/669570.jpg|655608], I think I like the first a little better though the difference isn’t by much. I still enjoyed the adventure immensely and we get to see more dragons, different people, and more action. Creel is the same, which went both ways with me. She didn’t seem to develop all that much in the book. However, she never acted out of character just to make the story more interesting like some authors do.
One thing that I was happy about was the people’s reaction to the dragons was realistic, even for a juvenile fantasy. And it doesn’t go into great length about it. Again, I am grateful that Creel's story could end here even if there is a third book.
Looking forward to the final book [b:Dragon Spear|5933646|Dragon Spear (Dragon Slippers, #3)|Jessica Day George|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1391205532s/5933646.jpg|6106090].

I have yet to meet a book by this author that I didn't like. This was no exception. Cute story, cute characters, a good sequel, looking forward to more.

A worthwhile, enjoyable sequel! The climax of the book is more toward the middle rather than at the end, which felt a little odd and made for a long, slow ending to contrast the quick wrap-up of Dragon Slippers. The writing matches the first book perfectly, even if the pacing of the last 1/4th felt a little different. Fans of the first will love to return to these lands and these characters and see what our human and dragon friends have been up to.

This was a cute sequel to Dragon Slippers. Fast paced and original. I am looking forward to the last book in the series.
When I looked up Dragon Slippers to reread my childhood fave, I had no idea that there was a second and third book! The first ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so probably I just was not very good at pursuing books in the library when I was a child. But I was happy to find I really liked this one too, even if it didn't have the familiarity of my youth.
I liked the flipping of the dynamics from the first book, and I liked the deeper look into alchemy as a practice. It might be 4.5 out of 5 though, because I was not quite as into the heroine as a character in the second book as I was in the first. I found her personality a little too reminiscent of my tumblr 2012 self, which I'd Prefer Not To Look At.

I read the first book in this series quite a while ago. I really did enjoy it, but didn't feel the need to pick up the next book immediately. So much time had passed (and so many books in-between)that I was a little nervous coming into the sequel. I didn't remember much, but it came back to me pretty quickly.
Really teetering between three and four stars here. I did enjoy it. It was well written. It did just feel a little "young" (even though the main characters are in their older teens). The cartoon cover is a good representation of the style of the story. Some of the events were just a little too ... cute or cartoonish. Even when there was fighting and life and death situations,it just didn't grab me like other, more "realistic" fantasy (I realize that's an oxymoron!) *Ü*

A very cute follow up to George's very cute Dragon Slippers. A good sequel.
