reread finished 6/21/24 — if this was my first time reading this book, it’d probably be more like 4.5 stars. this was sjm’s first work and it’s pretty obvious, as her writing has very much improved in books after this one. however, partly for nostalgia’s sake, i can’t give this anything less than 5 stars. i love the characters and the world so incredibly much, and spending time with them again was so much fun! i’m just so excited to continue my reread of one of my all-time favorite series <3

I really like this book! To be honest I didn’t expect much from it, so it was an honest surprise to see that this book is a pleasant adventure.

Before starting this review, I must say that I’m a Celaena and Dorian simp... Chaol is on thin ice.

I didn’t expect to enjoy —and love— the characters as much as I did. The worldbuilding is exquisite and the constant fight inside of Celaena makes this book a worthwhile read. Celaena Sardothien is the perfect heroine. She’s a morally gray character that, despite all her suffering, allows herself to feel pretty, have fun, be happy, and continue living despite all the adversities that surround her.

Throne of Glass is a good introduction to the amazing world that SJM created. Again, I didn’t expect that much from this book so that may explain why I’m so awestruck by it.
