I just happened to find this while organizing the junior fiction shelves at work. I also happened to find it the same day that I read the last volume of Ryan North's Squirrel Girl so I was feeling pretty nostalgic. This did not disappoint.

Shanon and Dean Hale are consistently reliable. I like the characters, the humor, and the squirrels. The villain seemed pretty two-dimensional, but that’s a Marvel villain for you. I think if I was a big Marvel fan I would have appreciated it even more.

This was just not Squirrel Girl, it wasn't even proto squirrel girl. The parts where they gave the squirrels fictional slurs was a bit much too.

Squirrel Girl felt trans coded which was cool and seems like an odd coincidence with the cover colors? I guess I'll never know because I really don't want to read the rest of it.

I was worried that this JV novel wouldn't have the same awesome tone and humor as the Comics by Ryan North and Erica Henderson, but I love Shannon Hale and she totally nailed it! Such a great origin story and I'm hoping for another one by Hale. The inclusion of other Marvel characters was a great bonus Hale does a great job with each of their voices as well. And as a parent I really appreciated the way teenage Squirrel Girl models good behavior but not in a preachy way.

Squirrel Girl + Shannon Hale = high hopes and lots of anticipation! But it just didn't work for me... a few moments that made me laugh but fell far short of the sweet, fullhearted absurdity I was hoping for. Just not as good as actually reading the Squirrel Girl comics.

The texts with the Avengers were pretty great, though.

Fun and lighthearted story with a nice relationship between Doreen and Ana Sofía. Personally I like the comics better though, maybe because this is aimed at younger readers.

I really hate to give this book such low stars, but I have a hard time really getting into books meant for a younger audience. Very cute characters, though, and an entertaining story. Shannon and Dale were the perfect authors for the job.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the super hero versus villain and the life of a super hero behind the fighting aspect to this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the squirrel girl comics or enjoys light super hero books.
