We all know Carrie, more then that we all KNOW Carrie. I was her not quite as bad but not far off either. I bet you two could sympathize with her two or even agree you were her. It makes for a difficult read tbh. Uncomfortable and very very sad. I think we all know about the date he wrote this on but this copy came with the addition of king talking about two dead classmates who were her. Who he wrote her for. And it’s just so. Sad. anyway he got a lil off topic is ways that I just didn’t care for and like. It would have been nice to see some happiness for her but ! Good wish I coulda read it in highschool

I want so desperately to give this book more than five stars.
Stephen King’s debut novel sees Carrie White, a misunderstood and highly unpopular girl, exact revenge on her tormentors during one insanely bloody prom night in 1979.
I’ve seen images from the original Sissy Spacek movie and, thus, thought I knew what it was all about. Sure, the prom scene is known to all to some degree but that is far from the entire story. This book has so much going on and has such a unique blend of means by which it’s told that it is easily King’s coolest and most memorable story.
One tip, if you get this edition with Margaret Atwood’s introduction, DO NOT READ IT! There are spoilers contained in her intro as it seems to assume that everyone has already read it. Wrong. This was my first time reading this book and I already knew a couple key points before starting it thanks to Ms. Atwood. Ugh.

Carrie by Stephen King is a tragic tale of a bullied teenage girl with terrifying telekinetic powers.
For his first work, King already captures the intense pain of alienation and the consequences of cruelty in the school. The buildup to the climax is tense and unforgettable, although, sometimes, the dialogue is a little awkward imo. Thank God King's spouse didn't let him throw this thing in the trash—we owe everything to her.

My second SK book! I picked this up to read around Halloween and as everyone already knows Stephen King is to writing what Diane Arbus is to photography. The entire book expertly leaves you with a queasy, uneasy feeling. I could see King’s perspective as a former schoolteacher come through at points. The plot and characters are fairly simple and straightforward, and I would’ve liked to see more depth and development. For some reason it was a struggle for me to get into it. 3.5 stars.

Would be 5 stars if it weren’t for the random and unnecessary inclusion of breasts throughout (breast used as a verb, breastless as an adjective, breasts being described when they have nothing to do with anything going on). Stephen King is a good writer but still a man at the end of the day (and writing this in the 70s, no less).
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Body shaming, Bullying, Child abuse, Emotional abuse, Fatphobia, Self harm, Blood, Death of parent, Murder, Fire/Fire injury
Moderate: Violence, Antisemitism, Pregnancy
