I was ready to love this, but it just jumped the shark with sentient computer turned hot metal babe villain.

Cassaday's pencils and perspectives are gorgeous, from the opening sequence that gradually drops from high above Xavier's school down to the pattern of leaf-shadow as a student strolls through the woods, on through other quiet moments and the inevitable donnybrook. Whedon's story is perhaps the most original in its use of the Danger Room, at least that I can remember. And, of course, the Jean Grey-based feud between Summers and Logan still simmers, long after her death.

I like how this is being setup. There are some sub-plots that are turning into over-reaching arcs and then always an immediate problem to be solved. The events aren't as "heavy" as the interpersonal relationship going on. Overall I'd say this is a step above your average comic. Fun stuff, looking forward to see what's coming next.

Astonishing X-Men is is just so damn good. I love being back in the X-Men universe, the characters are interesting, the story is fun and it's well developed so far. Plus, it's Joss Whedon, so you know you can't go wrong.

Another good solid book. With non dumb combat. And pithy lines. And obviously to be expected better use of Kitty then you typically get. And Danger is an interesting add. But it is still a too typical X-Men book with retread themes. Well, I suppose not treating an emergent AI the way they wanted to be treated as mutants is a bit different. And they are trying harder to make the Peter/Kitty relationship to work. The hinting about Emma is beginning to get annoying. But Scott isn't awful which is always surprising.

The plot is pretty good but I really wish there was more character development and exploring them in depth. They really take a back seat to the plot. Their characterizations seem pretty good. Although it always seems like there’s a few out of place lines every issue or so.
