Astonishing X-Men - Volume 2: Dangerous by

Another good solid book. With non dumb combat. And pithy lines. And obviously to be expected better use of Kitty then you typically get. And Danger is an interesting add. But it is still a too typical X-Men book with retread themes. Well, I suppose not treating an emergent AI the way they wanted to be treated as mutants is a bit different. And they are trying harder to make the Peter/Kitty relationship to work. The hinting about Emma is beginning to get annoying. But Scott isn't awful which is always surprising.

The plot is pretty good but I really wish there was more character development and exploring them in depth. They really take a back seat to the plot. Their characterizations seem pretty good. Although it always seems like there’s a few out of place lines every issue or so.

Good golly, there were twists and turns aplenty and though I was a bit lost by some of the references to earlier events, I still enjoyed this arc enormously. All of the current roster are so interesting, no mean feat when there's so much going on, but we are talking about the work of Joss Whedon here, king of the ensemble cast. Such a genius, I desperately want to high five him.

Much better than the last volume with the alien subplot place on the backburner.

3.5. Better paced than the previous part. Still lacking humor and a bit predictable.

Continuing on with my Wolverine mini-read, the story continues from [book:Astonishing X-Men, Volume 1: Gifted|31979]. The threat against the X-Men is continued when the power goes out at the school as old enemies return along with a new, unexpected one.

Some fun scenes (Wolverines "I really like beer" moment made me chuckle) and reasonably compelling story made for a slightly better story than the first volume. Still tropey, though.

Moving on to some stand-alones after this.

I love this set so far. I love it so much. I don't even have the words. I would like to own these. Someone should give me these.

This volume started off light and humorous with the appearance of the Fantastic Four. But it quickly became pretty intense with the introduction of new (and in my opinion, pretty creative) enemy - The Danger Room. When the school was attacked, the students naturally hid in the Danger Room (a simulation/training room of sorts) which was supposedly (and ironically enough) the safest place on campus... but wait! The door disappears! Everyone is trapped, and the Danger Room becomes (duh) dangerous.
