This was an amazing read! Heavy on the romance, light on the smut. But the smut that does exist is crazy hot.

I knew I would enjoy the justified crime subplot, but I could not have predicted how utterly captivating and completely thrilling I ended up finding this story.

Lovely and sweet, though not a huge amount of world building or character depth. I loved the historical details about wearing, jaquard looms, and instrument building! Read half ages ago and then finished it up on a plane ride. The heist was interesting but only ever felt surface-deep as a motivation.

2.5 stars. this is an easy read and it started out promising, but waite lost me about halfway through. i thought there was a pretty good build-up in the first half with a lot of potential for some good tension with intrigue thrown in to add some spice, but instead the main character almost immediately abandoned all suspicion and threw herself into the same sort of plot that she'd originally sworn she was against. while i don't think it's inherently wrong that she did end up getting involved, it just felt ridiculously rushed and convoluted for her to jump from vehemently hating the type of scheme that maddie was planning to diving in headfirst and throwing her own trauma to the wind in order to help her new lover.

the romance just didn't cut it for me, either. there were some really quick moments and this book is a super smooth and fast read, but there just wasn't anything about it that really held my attention.
