I’m being generous with the 3 star, I fell asleep at the 80% mark of the audiobook
I found this audiobook interesting and very different. Saying that, I think I would’ve enjoyed physically reading it better. There were a lot of characters to keep track of and I’m a visual person. The narration was great though!
What I enjoyed about it was all of the different ways the characters did connect. Like I said, I kind of lost bits here and there, but overall it was a great aspect to the storyline. I didn’t see a few twists and I did see a few too. It wasn’t my fave Riley Sager book, but I liked it more than others he has written. Middle of the road for him and an interesting concept.

This was my first Riley Sager, and from what I’ve heard, it’s a bit of a departure from his usual work. With a Vengeance felt like a formulaic locked-room mystery—think Agatha Christie on a post-WWII American train. Yes, there were twists (some a little far-fetched), and while I stayed on board to the end, it didn’t quite wow me. Enjoyable enough, but not a new favorite.

Murder didn't happen until around 3 hours into the book. The characters feel very flat. All plot, no character development. And very little plot to speak of. A lot of telling what happened before the characters got on the train.

Concept wasn’t bad. Execution wasn’t there for me.

I find Sager's works are often hit or miss and this one was unfortunately a miss. It just didn't make a whole lot of sense (the premise, the plot, the plausibility of any of the book). The writing felt awkward at points and I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters. I also hate when thrillers rely heavily on information being hidden from the reader and I felt like Sager relied on that more than he should have, or otherwise information just spawned out of seemingly nowhere.
Graphic: Death, Murder
Wasn’t sure what the point of the story was, even an hour in.
