Okay, so the book's kinda confusing, right? But I think it's the first of two, and I'm dying to know what happens next.

oof this book was not for me. the main character of this book is infuriating to me. she is painfully naive. at first I was like woah! a character who experiences legitimate anxiety and panic! that is refreshing to read!
but instead it became difficult to read. how did she become an adult?? how did she grow up raising her sister (when her sister seems to very clearly be raising her). I enjoy a nice slow burn and clueless flirting but this was too far. she needs someone to explain everything to her and seems to have so little awareness of the world. it’s like when you watch a character be what everyone needs from them and avoid ever being their own person.
she cares about her sister but is clueless about how the codependency is unhealthy and might strain the relationship. I hoped for maybe some growth but instead it just goes back and forth at adoring people and hating people.

Ok, yes, this helps with the chaos in books 2. But still, Ziva and her inner thoughts annoy me if she isn't kissing or fighting. I get mental despair and social anxiety. I truly do. But her character seems a bit coddled. She has the ability to be so much but her thoughts get in her way and her sister Temra is an enabler through and through. Which I mean whatever can you be at the ripe age of 16/17 and no adults to raise you. At the same time I am more interested and happy with the journey and the fight scenes than the lack of character growth. She is still the same person. And then the codependency is sickening. It's almost bordering obsessive. So character development is lacking but the journey as a whole took up for that. I really preferred this story over the 2nd book.
