“Maybe one day you’ll tell me your secrets, bladesmith, now that you know some of mine.”
4.5 stars!! I absolutely adored this adventurous and heartwarmingly fun book, filled with relatable social anxiety representation, smile-inducing banter, and charmingly lovable characters. <3 Seriously, I haven’t had this much fun reading a book like this in ages, which is why I can confidently say that I am genuinely glad I stumbled upon Blade of Secrets xoxo
p.s. i’d like to note that there is semi-graphic violence and minimal swearing.
extra quotes:
“I wish I could separate myself from the fear, to learn who I truly am.”
“How is even the sound of his voice attractive? One shouldn’t be attracted to a voice, right? Maybe there is more wrong with me than I realized.”

At eighteen I hate to leave the house and be around people.
Honestly, the amount of relatable moments in this book is unreal. Specially in the first couple of chapters. This might be my favourite book by [a:Tricia Levenseller|14358948|Tricia Levenseller|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1448558372p2/14358948.jpg] so far.
Ziva has social anxiety, and that makes her automatically my favourite person in the world. I felt her. Not everyday you get to read about a protagonist who has the same anxiety problems as you. Ziva is socially awkward. She can make the best deadly magical weapon without loosing a sweat over it but when it comes to attend a party she is something like this-
Has being social killed anyone in the history of the world? Surely not, but that does not seem to matter to the lead weight in my heart or the buzzing insects in my stomach.
Or if you ask her about the world,
I just wish the rest of the world would disappear.”
“That’d be an awfully empty world.”
“Exactly.”
did I mention I love her?
Ziva hates attention. While her sister Temra (honestly why would you name your child "Temra" that is beyond my understanding) is bright, fiercy. They balance each other. Every time Ziva has to "socialize" Temra is there to make things normal and bearable for her. The sisterly bond is the second best thing in this book.
So Ziva caught attention of a certain warlord in a party. The warlord requested her to make a magical sword for her. Unfortunately Ziva outdid herself. She accidentally makes a blade so powerful it can tell you anyone’s deepest secrets. Also, it has a very long range. The sword can't be destroyed (I know! just the cherry on top) so Ziva had to make sure it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. There you go, we have the wildest adventure ever.
I personally don't like a book that is mostly about traveling. But I didn’t feel bored for a minute. Ziva, Temra, Petrick, Kellyn managed to capture my attention from the very first and I ended up liking all of them.
I'll surely be holding my breathe for the next book.

So much fun! The action never stops!! Though, I gotta say that Kellyn’s angsty moments put a damper on the whole thing.

“I can promise I will always return a kiss from you.”
Oh my goodness I loved this one!!! Seriously this is YA Fantasy perfection! The social anxiety rep was fantastic! It’s full of action, adventure, a quest, magical weapons, romance & lots of twists & turns. I love a slow burn enemies to more & this one was so much fun! The banter was 🤌🏼 & had me giggling throughout. These characters are everything! First we have Ziva… a magical smithy who infuses weapons with unusual powers but struggles in social situations, her sister Temra who is bold, brave & helps her sister with her social anxiety. Next we have our mercenary Kellyn who is a tall drink of water 🫠 but expects payment for his help & then we have the scholar, Petrik who is a wealth of knowledge especially when it comes to magic. When Ziva receives a commission from a powerful warlord to make her a weapon. Ziva creates Secret Eater a sword capable of stealing its victims secrets. A sword with magic so powerful it could topple kingdoms. When Ziva learns of the warlord's intentions to use the weapon to take over the world, she takes her sister & flees. So begins a quest to keep the sword safe until they can find a worthy wielder or a way to destroy it entirely. It ends with a bit of a cliff hanger so I’m dropping everything to pick up the next book!
“I am more than my fear and weaknesses, but so much of the time, they're all I can think about.”
“I hate feeling as though I don't fit right in my own skin. As though the anxiety takes up too much space, pushing me aside.”
“As for not liking people, that's fine. I don't really like people, either. Maybe we could not like people together.”
Thank Megan for putting this duology my radar and gifting me a ebook copy 🥰
I really really enjoyed this book. I’m typically not big on fantasy but this was so well done and well written. Can’t wait to start the second!
