The characters and their relationships are intriguing, yet there's a sense of self-absorption that can be a tad much. The prose, while occasionally sophisticated, may border on pretentious, and the pacing tends to drag in certain spots.

The exploration of friendship and love carries depth, but it feels like Rooney didn't quite hit the mark. There are glimpses of brilliance, but the overall storytelling lacks the punch I was hoping for. It's a hesitant four stars, acknowledging the highlights amid the imperfections.

This was a breezy, stimulating read that covered macro and micro topics. The love stories were realistic and jarring, similarly to the characters themselves. It was relatable and relieving all in one.

I liked this book but felt impartial or even disliked the characters- which I guess might be part of the point and made them feel more realistic? I liked the conversations between characters but the dynamics felt awkward and bizarre. Like none of them felt good for each other or destined to be together.
so that made the ending feel bizarre to me. A little too neat and happy than what I was expecting.
Overall I enjoyed the writing and especially Eileen and Alice’s emails to one another.

First book I've read by Sally Rooney, and honestly I did like it! I cannot really express my feelings about it yet, so I might edit this review later on, or I might not, who knows!

Two things I didn't like about the book is that the writer didn't use indications for when people we're having a conversation/emailing with each other. It was also sometimes very unclear who we were reading about > no POV announcements.
