I was so excited to read their story after meeting them in Lord Perfect. Some of their charm from that book carried over and made for a fun read. There was just a little of that magic that was missing. The pacing of the story was a little inconsistent.

one of loretta chase's many books in which the Racism About Egypt moderately overwhelms the good characters

4.5 stars

Not my favorite book in the series, but a pretty fun read.

This is a 2.5 for me.

It's probably just me, but I find hard to see these two's chemistry. Especially, since I've sort of shipped them since Lord Perfect. I find it hard to really care for them in the same level as the previous books.

My favourite of the Carsington Brothers series, where a grown-up Olivia and Peregrine are thrown together again. It's got best-friends-to-lovers with all the history behind them, it's got protofeminist thought in the great character of Olivia where we get to see a great mind and the admission that her emotionalism isn't the problem it's part of her allure, there's a PUZZLE HUNT and Olivia cracking open the treasure with her lockpicking!

I turned the last page and said "What!" Then I realised everything had been wrapped up neatly. Oh. Still, if anything deserved an epilogue, this was it. I didn't QUITE buy the lasting emotional happiness.

Fun.
