If you had asked me what I expected from this book, I would have never imagined saying "rooting for a bunch of spiders".
Halfway between science fiction and my first year uni zoology lesson, this book was a total surprise, made so such more enjoyable by the fact that my biology degree brain was screaming, crying, throwing up the entire time.
I can't really talk about this book without spoiling anything because it's best going in without knowing too much. But I will say I'm a little perplexed about the ending as it felt quite rushed and a little too simple.
Anyway, onwards to book two soon!

Incredible book, incredible concepts, very well written, It lays out very big concepts but is always approachable yet thoughtfull and unique.

Spiders who hyper-evolved thanks to a man-made virus on a desolate terraformed planet eventually make contact with humans from ruined, destroyed Earth.
This is the kind of book that makes you go 'wow' on hindsight. The writing, though decent, isn't anything to write home about, but the underlying concepts of this whole novel are grand, nuanced, and pretty revolutionary. Why shouldn't spiders and other Children of Earth, have a go at colonising the stars as well? Who are the aliens here?
Started this book with very low expectations, and found myself unexpectedly and slowly drawn in by the magic of the tale.
