Another great crime mystery worked by Harry Bosch that left me at the edge of my seat. 2/3 into the case we find out details of a murder we do not know when it is first introduced. The details are grisly. If you don't like crimes involving children then you want to skip this one. It was hard to read, but Michael Connelly only tells as much as he needs to. He doesn't keep bringing it up. Not the greatest book to end 2017 with, but 2017 was crap anyways. Leave the grisly details in 2017.
Another great Bosch novel! Enjoyed this one because it wasn't very predictable. The end was one of these where I was actually asking, "Who the heck is the killer?" I thought I had the whole mess figured out, only to be very wrong. That's a plus because some novels in the past I have figured out much too early who/what/where, etc. Entertaining, good, classic Connelly.
Book #41 read in 2011
This was fast-paced and interesting.

It was very hard to finish this book, as it is very dark, made me feel helpless.
H.B. has to face problems in his private life [though there is a little of that subject - but it is mentioned enough to think about it and to not forget that his family life slips away and he is alone on his dark path, as actually he is alone entire his life]. H.B. has to deal with Deputy Chief Irving, arrogance of whom made me sick. I hope I'll see him be humiliated and mutilated, such moron he is.

In [b:Angels Flight|32502|Angels Flight (Harry Bosch, #6; Harry Bosch Universe, #7)|Michael Connelly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1440615586l/32502._SY75_.jpg|2449470], Bosch unravels the murder of a famous lawyer who was about to put up a case against a case against LAPD-detectives for police brutality against a black suspect. Even before Bosch and his team enter the crime scene the authorities make it clear that this is not a normal case but one that is politically charged due to the victim's occupation. The involvement of the IAD and FBI further contribute to the case's severity. There are numerousu parallels to Rodney King and the riots of 1992. Connelly does a good job in creating a suspenseful atmosphere and the racial relations between LA communities and the LAPD leave an impression on all interactions. The fear of a new riot is imminent.
Bosch and his team spend the first half of the book to investigate the victim and his surroundings. This is standard police procedure. The novel gathers pace when Bosch takes up another case linked to the one he is working on and the backgrounds are illuminated more. Eventually, more bodies pile up. In addition to the sensitive topic of racism and police brutality, Bosch and his team reveal another precarious crime.
For me, the first three quarters of the book were the most entertaining. I would have given 5 stars without even thinking about it. Yet, somehow the end left a bitter taste in my mouth. Despite the many characters working as lawyers, detectives, investigators dedicating their careers and giving their lives to justice, few crimes committed in [b:Angels Flight|32502|Angels Flight (Harry Bosch, #6; Harry Bosch Universe, #7)|Michael Connelly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1440615586l/32502._SY75_.jpg|2449470] are actually brought to trial.
Aside from the end, I always have a good time reading Connelly while drinking a whiskey and listening to jazz in the background.

Connelly, Michael. Angels Flight. Harry Bosch No. 6. Little Brown, 1999.
When a civil rights lawyer with many enemies in the LAPD is murdered on a Bunker Hill funicular trolley in downtown LA, Harry Bosch is brought in from Hollywood to solve the case. As usual, Connelly does a good jo b of character development and plot construction.

I really love Harry Bosch, but I wouldn't want to live with him. And neither does his wife, or really anyone else. But he's a stand-up guy surrounded by creepazoids inside and outside the LAPD.
Good story. More, please.
