~How many times would they have sex and knot without ever trading the bite mark? She was not sure her heart could handle it. But her body would demand she would keep having sex until her heat was satisifed by the only alpha that her omega deemed worthy. - Kinsey~

I read this sometime this year and it really gave me a lot of feelings about cisheteropatriarchy, especially after reading the author's blog and reflections on being a lesbian attracted to these kinds of works.

I remember having no desire to continue the series after reading it. Felt like there were logical loopholes like why would a homo/transphobic king give his blessing to this courtship in the first place?

When I think about this book, I remember it made me sad about the world the characters lived in. I just didn't realize how much of the book was hinged on the main character being "degenerate" and gender roles being so strict.

Largely I also want to escape homophobia when I read fantasy. I got this for free so didn't read too closely the blurb on the back. If you don't have a problem with real-world prejudices invading fantasy, then maybe you won't be as bothered by this as I was.

This is one of those rare books that I picked up solely because of the cover. I didn't read the blurb but loved the cover so that was that. I'm actually really glad I didn't read the blurb because I probably wouldn't have given it a try if I had. Also I had no idea what the hell the "omegaverse" was.

After cracking it open and reading the blurb and the bit of explanation that immediately followed it, I had to stop and read part of it again. It included something called "G!P" which I had never seen before. It stands for girl penis. Now I'm intrigued so I dive on in.

Of Iron and Gold grabbed me from the first page and held my attention all the way to the end. There was a little bit of intrigue with kingdom politics (very, very little), some fights between Alphas, lot of romance, and loads and loads of sex (and loads). If you're penis averse, even when it's a woman sporting it, you should absolutely avoid this one. But if you're okay with it and enjoy super hot sex scenes, you're in for a treat.

This is listed as a stand-alone but also as the first in the series. I looked at the second in the series and it seems to take place in the same universe but dealing with completely different kingdoms. So you can read this one and stop and not miss anything. No cliffhangers!

Recommended to me by a friend, I finally read a book by this author.

It was interesting and the story was gripping enough to see it through to the end.

At first, I found the alpha/omega dynamic intriguing but, over the course of the book, a little baffling. There seemed to be, on the author’s part, an assumption that I knew what she meant by alpha and omega and further, by g!p. Since there is a bit of latitude taken by authors with the traits of alphas and omegas I could have used some clarification. I also didn’t understand if these were humanoid animals or what exactly they were. The g!p did not bother me but neither did it enhance the sex scenes for me.

All that said, the story was otherwise well fleshed out and peopled (?) with goodies and badies I could distinguish and support or dislike as intended.

While I am not rushing out to read the next installment in the series, I may at some point pick it up.

This was my first Lexa Luthor book and I will definitely be reading more in the Omegaverse. Of Iron and Gold gives you a slow burn story that endears both main characters (Aubrey and Princess Kinsey) to you. By the time it gets spicy, it feels long overdue, and the author spends time making sure it was worth the wait.

It's a great story. Highly recommend. I have the audiobook and the narrator is amazing.
