醍醐灌顶的一本书，读的很痛苦，但是清醒的人总是痛苦的。本来我愿意给前2/3的《第二性》满分，但最后波伏娃给出的走向解放的解决方案和我自己的想法有出入，加上她有太多的文学批评可读性稍微门槛高了一些，扣个0.25分:永远有进步的空间。
生活在这个时代，女性已经开始觉醒。但是这本书详细的从生理，心理，历史，社会各种角度全面婆剖析了女性现状的历史形成原因以及未来的走向。于是我了解到女性的角色远比我想象的要复杂和崎岖。但我依然认为，性别这个角色因为无法从可落实的角度给予价值（如：我是一个好木匠因为我可以做出精良的木雕，但什么是我是一个好女性？），所以最后解决的方案一定不是通过单纯的性别角度入手的。

Andavo al liceo quando lessi il mio primo libro sul femminismo e come tutti i libri sull'argomento citava questo libro francese che scoprii venir considerato IL libro sul femminismo, ma dovettero passare anni prima di decidermi a leggerlo. E dopo 7 mesi, finalmente posso chiuderlo commentando: "Che viaggio!"
700 pagine che ti mostrano come dall'inizio della civiltà la diversità della donna, concepita come diversa e pericolosa, sia stata messa sotto controllo, portando la femminilità a diventare qualcosa di artefatto, attraverso una serie di imposizioni sociali spacciate per naturali che regolano la vita delle donne fin dalla loro nascita. Ho avuto sentimenti contrastanti leggendo questo saggio: sorpresa nello scoprire come il trionfo della civiltà sulla natura abbia coinciso con l'abbandono delle divinità femminili potenti ma terribili a favore di divinità maschili, rabbia nel vedere come la letteratura (soprattutto gli scrittori) abbia diffuso una concezione erronea della donna, soddisfazione nel veder smentite le teorie di Freud che hanno fatto tanti danni, delusione per alcune parti invecchiate un po' male - fortunatamente dal 1949 sono stati fatti dei passi avanti - e tanta simpatia (nel significato letterale della parola, 'soffrire insieme') per l'impotenza provata da numerose donne insoddisfatte di trovarsi nel posto in cui sembravano da sempre destinate.
Che altro posso dire... recuperatelo perché questo libro è come una montagna russa: devi essere pront* psicologicamente ad affrontarla, perché le vertigini e il trovarsi a testa in giù possono inizialmente far paura, ma l'adrenalina e le gambe che a malapena ti reggono in piedi ti spingeranno senza dubbio a risalire su altre montagne russe ancora e ancora.
(Non avrei mai pensato di paragonare un libro a una montagna russa... spero che la metafora abbia funzionato)

i can see how upon reading this for the first time many women become radicalized. Simone De Beauvoir does an exquisite job describing the female, femme, feminine experience as it pertains to women’s servitude. She repeatedly returns to describing woman as “the other”. When women are the other man is therefore the essential being . Woman therefore comes out of male. biological data and statistics are used to denote women’s inferiority . If her inherent nature begots her to inferiority , other facets of her livelihood therefore do the same . What we see as Beauvoir journeys the lives of woman ness is that every stage in life is met with new attempts at full humanity. However, she can never achieve that status because at every stage she is still met the void of nothingness, Depression. Emptinness. Boredom. At every stage of woman’s life, whether it be girlhood childhood married status motherhood old age, women is met with these vapid emotions . Being therefore ceases to exist for the female sex

American feminism is cool I guess, but like. . . Simone de Beauvoir is next level. The Second Sex is pretty much exactly what you'd expect when a top-notch existentialist (way cooler than Sartre) launches into a treatise on "what it is to be woman."
She's the single most well read person I've ever heard of, and uses countless references to sociology, psychology, philosophy, and literature to analyze "the second sex" from every angle. The result is both rigorously derived and deeply personal.
My husband actually read this book with me. It was interesting for him of course, and interesting for me to read not only through myself but through him. Beauvoir masterfully articulates miseries and humiliations that my body has always known. Many men have never thought about these thing, but they should know; as Beauvoir points out again and again, absolute fraternity and equality between the two will liberate both in ways unimaginable.
