Omg this was one of theeee worst books I've ever read.. it was so boring it took me over 4 years to read.. I finally forced myself to finish it just so I can get rid of it and off my currently reading list.. I am so glad to be done with this one

Wasn’t my cup of tea.
Thought the marathon would have been longer.it wa about 10 pages.and her trying to prove her fathers innocence isn’t what I’d prefer to read.

I was excited going into this book because of the dystopian aspect. I wish there was more in the first book on the government and more worldbuilding, but I hope there is more in the second book. I loved the characters. I found them all unique and all motivated by different things.

I was very underwhelmed by this one. The worldbuilding set-up is incredible and I think the plot beats were done well at a macro level. I'm all on board for a bottom-of-the-ocean post-apocalypic society with layers of government conspiracy to unearth and some genetically altered marine monsters. The big plot twist/reveal in the middle was fun and unanticipated and added an interesting dynamic. Unfortunately, I didn't think the writing was great, the characters had the personality of rocks, and some of the plot leaps (especially at the end) on a micro level were not very believable. A lot of the political and moral commentary was very heavy-handed. Most distracting and annoying were the descriptions whenever Ari came on page. If I never hear about fiery, amber, honey, coppery eyes or skin again, it will be too soon.

The Light at the Bottom of the World was an interesting read, containing incredibly intriguing world building, picturesque settings, and mysterious subplot, wrapped up in a lovely cover. I didn't feel particularly one way or the other about this novel and my reading experience. I feel like I can't go into the aspects that did and didn't work for me without revealing spoilers. The main aspect that I enjoyed the most was the world building and settings. The Light at the Bottom of the World gave me both steampunk and science fiction vibes. There were references to other literary works. I'm satisfied with the time I afforded in reading The Light at the Bottom of the World.
