It took me awhile to read it. I put it down for a couple of months due to school and could never get back into it. But I finally made myself pick it up again (I hate leaving a book unfinished) and it finally got interesting. So it may take awhile to get good, but it does get better and I did enjoy it.

I read/ listened to this story while doing year end/ Beginning clean up. What a wonderful tale. You feel like you are really with the characters. If you have only ever seen the movies, READ THE ORIGINAL!

Of course I start with the second book in the series but, to be honest, I felt relatively up-to-date because Tarzan is such a Thing-Concept-Pop Moment. It was actually a pretty fun read and moved along quickly. There are moments to suspend disbelief and there were flashes of time-period bias and racism. Hence putting on the critical thinking cap and knowing that some bits are rubbish thinking. On the other hand, having read other books of the time period, it felt less condescending and racist in some ways. (And it certainly had plenty of disapproval to spend on a lot of White Man's Civilization which was refreshing.) A fun, fast read - nothing life altering.

Time to make my way through a whole bunch of Tarzan novels. I don't particularly love the reading experience, but this book has a lot of good chances for some lolz.

What do you get when you combine espionage, intrigue, high society France, a nasty Russian villain, a luxury cruise, African tribal warfare, Arabic and Bedouin culture, and bloodthirsty pagan ape-men guarding a secret hoard of gold? The Return of Tarzan apparently.

Yes, Tarzan slew around a dozen lions.
Yes, Tarzan became a high-society Frenchman just months after meeting humankind for the first time.
Yes, Jane Porter has to put her hand to her heaving bosom to cope with overwhelming emotions way to often....

And it was epic.
