A very compelling, creepy, and surprisingly funny retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher. Kingfisher and I clearly agree on two things: the original story left many unanswered questions that burned in my breast, and there weren't nearly enough queer people in it. Kingfisher solves both things with a surprisingly grounded (but no less horrifying) take on what illness and/or madness afflicts the Ushers and the uncanny manor in which they reside. This was my first time reading Kingfisher, but she's been recommended to me several times and I daresay I'm looking forward to reading more of her works.
