I do love this book. Just how amazingly written it is and how deeply we are made to care about these two fundimentally flawed people, which somehow makes them so entirely dysfunctional, but still intertwined.

I find the books lack of closure in its ending frustrating but idk maybe thats the point. Throughout the whole story they go through the same cycle of convincing eachother they want eachother, worrying about something, splitting and being drawn back together

I like to think connell went to new york and they emailed like they did when marianne was in sweden. I dont know what would happen when he came back though, to be honest i imagine theyd split again

However this doesnt change that marianne saved connell from the crushing pressure from how he was percieved and he saved her from herself due to her trauma. They both found happiness because of eachother and i dont think it matters if it ended up with them together or not

i think sally rooney really captured how tiresome life is. how exhausting it is for normal people to lead normal lives. the precision into marianne and connell’s psyche was exhausting, at times, but also incredibly informative, frustrating, humane.

it was such an interesting journey reading about these two characters’ lives at different timelines, watching their friendship and relationship take on so many shapes: growth, failure, trust, rejection (obviously not in this order) as well as observing their ever-changing relationships with other people separately from each other.

i don’t know really know how i’m supposed to review this besides admitting that this book can’t / won’t be for everyone, but it is definitely amazing. i watched the show before reading it (i’d only realized it was an adaption until i’d started it) but it was nothing compared to how visceral reading it felt like.
