WTF was this… stupid twist that made absolutely no sense what so ever. Wished I DNF’d but I kept going for reasons I’m still trying to work out. Booktok hyped this up for NO reason.
The cruel mmc, Mendax, isn’t the real nightmare - this writing is. The amount of whiplash and plot holes this book includes is maddening. If you’re going to have the main character narrate from her point of view - the terror and ‘innocence’ she felt throughout the book - why would you have her inner dialogue lying to the audience when we discover the pitiful excuse for a plot twist at the end?
I’m starting the second book only to see if filling the plot holes have any chance of recovering the story in any capacity.

Wow just wow. This book made me feel all sorts of emotions and I absolutely enjoyed it!! Can’t wait for book two.

5* cover, it's gorgeous and different
5* FMC, relatable nerdy
4* overall because it is rather slow and so descriptive. Which can be a good thing if you are into that but it was too descriptive for me.
I skipped and skimmed a lot and I am still giving it 4* because it's really good. 50-100 pages less and it would be one of my favorite reads this year.
I rarely ever like the FMC as much as I did this one. She is smart and we know that because she shows her knowledge over and over again, not because we are told she is smart.
Her nerding over things at the beginning was so cute and relatable. In my opinion this book is a must read for science nerds who are into this genre.
Can't wait for book 2. Like seriously I am upset that I can't find information about book 2.
