Mead did her job - I loved Dimitri's character in the first 3 books, I hated what he became in this one, and I hate that now have to I hate him.

Thank goodness I'm reading this series when all 6 books are already written and out, b/c I'm a sucker for the idea of true love, and I'm holding out hope that the illusion Avery planted in Rose's head will become real in the end!!!

I still can't believe that all this series takes place in... basically maybe less than a year?
We start in October when the girls are sent back to school by Dimitri.
And now we're near May when she dropped out of school and within a month or two (5 weeks, she mentions) of adventuring, comes "drops back" into school?

Great.

This will be the first time I'm giving a 4 star rating to a VA book. I hope this is the last as well. Ok first of all, there was no Dimitri for a good part of the book. And yes she set to Russia to find him and release his soul but once she set foot on the belikovs house, things got really slow. That really kind of slowed the reading and put a lull which I thought was quite dragging and could be avoided. As much as I yearned to see Dimitri appear again, the events that followed was not one that I expected. Quite a surprise but I still don't like it because it shook the basic concept of love between them on which I believe a decent amount of readers' interest holds. But kudos to the Author for making us show what Or how a strigoi would be, one that loved Rose and not showing him as someone who would mindlessly kill anyone and anything but but someone who still remembered everything and dint want to kill rose, yet having a very wrong interest in her. To "awaken" her too. I have to admit, this was even more scarier than anything I would have imagined of StrigoiDimitri. And oh god, being captured in that luxurious prison with no weapon to defend amongst a bunch of strigoi was scariest to say the least. and the way Rose was losing control because of the endorphins *shudders* somehow I believe it was the danger with Lissa that finally brought Rose to her senses. And the part where rose communicated with Lissa thru Oksana to take off Avery was amazing. I can kind of sense how the next book or the next is going to be, I need a really good way of portraying Dimitri to think of him as the one he used to be :( because he is not the person I once liked or Rose for that matter. So here's hoping all goes well.

Cuarto libro de la saga.

I am really beginning to like this series. I'm not exactly sure how it is going to end happily (and it's teen fiction so I'm almost 100% sure it is), but they are quick, interesting reads. The timeline in this story seemed a little messed up and I also found it "convenient" that Rose happened to enter into Lissa's mind at all the right times (not when she's sleeping, or sitting in class for example) but it's a book so I'll go with it. I do think that is one thing that J.K. Rowling did well with the HP series. There were times when things were "normal"...let the reader catch their breath a little bit. I'm still not a fan of the term "blood whore" being thrown around all the time. I also think that a lot of Rose's dialogue is just trying too hard to be witty (and failing). Her insistence on calling Abe "old man" spoke more poorly of her than him. It made her seem like a petulant brat. But she's growing on me. And Lissa doesn't seem as helpless anymore so that's growing on me as well. If I was anyone else (not crazy and incapable of quitting a series...even if I absolutely hate it...Pretty Little Liars, anyone?) I probably wouldn't have kept reading this series after the first book. I wasn't impressed. But I guess sometimes having OCD about finishing books/series is worth it (not often though!)

I was lowkey hoping I wouldn't still love these books when I decided to reread them but unfortunately they're really directly in my wheelhouse. Who knows though maybe it's just the nostalgia talking. I really enjoy how much more mature Rose is in this book, I just wish it hadn't come at the cost of all the trauma she got in the first three books

Finally! Less recap!
This was heavily Rose focus, on the end we see some Lissa story but for me, she is very irrelevant for now. More of the same.
Rose, on the other hand, got a lot to worry about, had to fight against her feeling and find her focus again. Till the middle of the book, nothing very exciting happen but the second half was intense!
I found very interesting the increase in knowledge we are getting from the uses of spirit and the spirit users, some look made specific to make the plot works but still makes sense in this world.
