if you've read the title, you've practically read all the poems.

Thank you Thought Catalog for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review!

I have no idea what did I do to deserve such an amazingly written poetry book such as Your Soul is a River from folks at Thought Catalog. I mean this book blew my mind away. I try to read poetry books with meaning and self reflection because I know the approach to this genre is very unique and not being a person of an arts background, I do sometimes struggle with the depths of meaning behind every poem.

But Your River is a Soul just spoke straight to my heart.

I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful this book is. How well written it is in describing the wonderful journey of love, life, loss and self-acceptance. The book is divided into 8 parts: from being a part of the universe to breaking hearts and healing your own.

This one was really interesting. I really like how the author used the cosmos, the sea, the nature etc to speak about love, heartbreak, healing, strength, beauty. As someone who doesn't read much poetry, this was a good book, but I don't think it is the best I have ever read.
The subjects were all very important and the way they were described was so true, but I simply didn't fall in love with this book, it was just great.

"EARTH TRUTHS
Some days you will break
every part of yourself
until there is nothing left
that you truly know.

Do no blame yourself
when this happens.
Even the earth breaks
to allow flowers to grow.

It is an absolute privilege to feel my heart ache when I read Nikita Gill’s poems.
I’m not usually one to read a full Poetry book in one sitting, but there is something about these poems that cut me to my core, and leave me crying rivers. They’re beautifully composed, and it genuinely feels like they’re speaking directly to me.

I want to press this book into the hands of everyone who has a broken heart, everyone struggling to figure themselves out, everyone who feels like a failure or lesser, everyone who has been through a terrible loss, especially a break-up. You know how there are never good words for times like those? How everything sounds hollow, trite, or cliche? These are the words you struggle to find in times like those. This is a lovely book of sage perspectives and observations about the heart, how it breaks, and how it mends. This book is like a compassionate friend sitting by your side, seeing you, and telling you there is light. Caveat: Super technical and lyrical poetry this is not, but that's not really what this book is doing. The craft of this poetry is very sparse, and at times repetitive, but I took that to be its intended function. If you're looking for dense and lush this will not be your bag. If you want conversational and minimalist this will strike a chord.

I liked the poems, they just didn't connect with me. I'm hoping I'll like her more recent poetry better.

Loved it on the beginning, lost it in the long run. I can pick quite a number of favorite poems in this one but some poems just became repetitive and slowly lost its impact.
