This was the sweetest book I've read in a while. I couldn't help but fall in love with every single hedgehog mentioned! 🦔
If you love animals, you'll love this book.

I'm so glad I got to experience this little piece of the author's life. It was a heartwarming and beautiful story and I couldn't help but cry and smile whenever Massimo was talking about his growing love for these wonderful creatures. Reading this was a clear reminder that even though somethings might seem small in the big scheme of things, as long as they fill you with love and life, they might actually make a world of a difference to someone else.
Well I think you're right, Massimo, and I'm very happy you shared with us how you helped save so many tiny dots.
"The meaning of my help, even if what I do is just a drop in the ocean, is related to compassion(...)
Anyway, what's a hedgehog compared to the world? A very, very tiny dot?
Well, changing out point of view, I could also ask: What is our world compared to our galaxy? A very, very tiny dot."
Well I think you're right, Massimo, and I'm very happy you shared with us how you helped save so many tiny dots.

A Handful of Happiness by Massimo Vacchetta
This is a non-fiction book written by an Italian veterinarian who ends up rescuing a hedgehog which he names Ninna. He becomes obsessed with her and other headgehog who come his way. Eventually, he ends up opening a hedgehog rescue and sanctuary. This is a good read for animal lovers and can be a recommendation for middle school, high school and adult readers. I borrowed this book from the public library.

A few weeks ago, I found a hedgehog on the pavement. It was alive (and breathing very loudly), but it didn't move when I approached and I knew that hedgehogs shouldn't be out much during the day anywhere, especially not in December. I took it home with me in a shoebox (a move that my cat didn't much appreciate) and kept it until Animal Rescue came to pick it up. Turned out that it had a cold; it hadn't been able to eat enough in summertime, which meant it had to stay out much later in the year to prepare for its hibernation, which wasn't good for its health.
It made me curious about hedgehogs, and somebody recommended this little book to me. What a cute gem! The language is very simple (perfect for language learners, I imagine), and the story is just heartwarming and touching in its simplicity. Short sentences, nothing complicated, but it goes straight into your heart.
