I love the way Kendra Elliott can weave a story. This one was complicated, with twists and multiple points of view. One of my favorite things about Kendra Elliott is if you pay attention to the details, you can find all the evidence you need to connect the dots. I had my suspicions about a few plot lines and was still shocked by some of the details in the final twist.

I’ve loved Truman and Mercy from their beginning and I love that Kendra Elliott keeps bringing us back into their world. The addition of Ollie’s point of view brought a new layer to this thrilling adventure. I loved getting Ollie’s point of view now that he’s older and has been living in society for a few years now.

This was a thrilling crime adventure through the forest of Oregon. It was exciting and suspenseful. It had several twists and cameos from some of my favorite Kendra Elliott books. I love that all her books take place in the same world so you never know who might drop in.

What can I say? I’ve read every Mercy Kilpatrick book by Kendra Elliot.

I love that Ollie got the spotlight in this one and his story ended so beautifully. I love everything about Mercy and Truman’s relationship, even though in this one it was close to just in the periphery kind of romance 🥹 I always love settled love.

The mystery kept me guessing for a while, but as the clues started to piece together I figured it out, but still enjoyed the reveals. The ending though, I was not expecting that at all. I am shocked in a good way, and I cried but whatever.

Mercy, Truman and Co are back for some more small town suspense.

A body is found which echoes a cold case from 20 years before.  Then 3 teenagers went missing, one was found dead and one was found almost dead.  It's not really an FBI case but Mercy lends a hand to Detective Noelle Marshall of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office.

A podcaster is the latest victim but it would seem he has links to the original missing teenagers. As the team uncover more similarities, another body is found.  Are they taunting Mercy, Nicole and the other investigators or are they sending a message to the survivor of the original attack.  A survivor who has no memory of the actual attack.

I love meeting up with Mercy -  she's so calm, practical and capable.  No jurisdiction wars for her. Truman is again a wonderful father-figure for Ollie, something he wants to make more permanent. Ollie may be slightly naïve due to his upbringing but he is such a talented tracker and just a downright decent human being. Noelle is a bit more of an unknown but she is a great cop and works well with Mercy and other law enforcement agencies.

There are lots of layers to the story including the ongoing establishment of a new family for Ollie, finding out his birth family details, solving murders and disappearances and uncovering simmering dark secrets.  I love the descriptions of the remote area of Oregon where the action plays out.

There are some twists and turns and one of them gave me a deep sense of satisfaction.  The MC's are likeable and believable.  Looking ahead to the next book already!

I always enjoy the books with FBI Mercy Kilpatrick and Sheriff Truman Daly.  They have made a lovely family.  This book starts with the death of a podcaster but podcasting is not a central part of the book.  His death is tied to an old murder and missing persons case.  Mercy is working the case with another agency and Truman is helping.  The case was very complicated since so much time had passes.  The one survivor has no memory of the time he was missing.  While the case is the main focus of the story we also get some advancement in the personal lives of the main characters.  I anticipated the author was laying ground for a big reveal and was not disappointed.  I would recommend this book for readers who have enjoyed the previous books in the series.
