Great book - I hope that she reads it before her next fight.
I've never seen a Ronda Rousey fight in my life, and would probably cringe at watching one, but had heard some about her story through friends and news clips. I admire her drive and the passion with which she pursues her dreams and goals; and, I believe she is the best at what she does because of her drivenness. The book tells her story and how she got where she is now. There is a lot of cursing in the book so I wouldn't recommend it for younger audiences but overall the book has a good message: work harder than anyone else to achieve your goals, don't give up, and pursue your passions with all your heart and mind.
Ronda Rousey caught my attention in 2015 when she was setting the world on fire with incredible moves in in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and the league of UFC as the first women's champion. I had seen her in brief interviews and wondered about her story. Yep, I added her biography to my reading list. It's an interesting story and certainly many messages that can be taken away from her history. The one that does not escape me is the strength and determination of her mother that was a driving force in Ronda developing years in Judo. But before that, a love of a father that would create a foundation for her life.
It's a great story and excellently written. I find myself excited to see the future and the next chapter of her life.

This is a VERY GOOD Book.... I can honestly say I am not into the UFC Scene. The story behind who she is as a person and why speaks volumes.
I went into this book expecting it to be a lot of MMA jargon I would't understand, maybe most of it being endless chapters of her workouts, eating habits, etc. Instead I was presented with a really well told, well organized autobiography, explianing why she got into the UFC and what has shaped her life. It was very interesting, minus a few bits where I skimmed. I would recommend it to anyone who like me, knew a bit about her before reading it, but wanted to know more about the woman who obliterates others in the ring. I found her determination, focus & drive inspiring and can see why she is on top of her game.
Surprisingly good. Kind of choppy writing, but I really feel real affection for her. Poor Ronda. I'd have loved a more thoughtful exploration of the ways in which being a female athlete is different than being a male athlete, from expectations to the responses people have to her. I also feel like she's really crafty in knowing how to get publicity and I was looking forward to her at least admitting to those machination.
Anyway. Team Ronda.
Anyway. Team Ronda.
Wavered between 3 and 4 stars. I have never heard of Ronda until this book, and I very much dislike watching MMA fighting, however, I enjoyed reading this book. A friend recommended it to me so I figured I would try it out and the more I read, the more interested I became.
As I remember it, I have started reading Ronda's autobiography after her recent loss to Amanda Nunes. It definitely is an interesting read, even more now as the subtitle of the book, the undefeated UFC champion, is no longer relevant at the time of this short review.
Whenever I pick a sport autobiography, this is exactly what I expect to get, an in-depth and personal look on one's life, that even though is one sided, presents you more than what media would be interested in showing you. From personal struggles, to family, relationships and professional career, all aspects are listed in a neat fashion with the help of journalist Maria Burns Ortiz.
After finishing the book, and knowing that Ronda's first two official defeats in the UFC are just coming, it is interesting to see that she could somehow see her downfall as soon as she got interested in Hollywood.
One of my favorite parts comes in the chapter You have to be willing to embarrass yourself when she met Sylvester Stallone and while discussing her future in one of his future movies, Stallone added:
"You think you could fight with the curse? You think you could handle this?" he asked me, referring to the belief that acting is the kiss of death for an athlete's career.
Whatever she decides her future in the sport will be, you could try and go through her own fight and see how hard she has trained in order to get where she is, and even if she would decide to retire, one should always appreciate what Rousey and Gina Carano offered to this sport and how far they took it from where it initially was.

I found the story of Ronda Rousey overcoming odds in both judo and MMA inspiring and interesting. Not being an athletic/competitive person, I thought her mindset in competition to be really different. Being a huge fan of hers I enjoyed seeing other aspects of her personality. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would but I think that is due to my lack of athletic competition appreciation.
This book is fantastic! Many people think that Ronda is a b**** or full of herself but when you read this book you understand why. Rousey has gone through so much in her life that she has no choice but to fight all the time. She fights because no one ever believes in her. She has fought for her life. She has fought for people to take her seriously. It is because of this constant fighting that she has gotten to where she is now. Even though she may have made bad choices in her life and gone down some bad paths it is my personal belief that she is an amazing role model for girls today. Rousey never gives up and she never has. She takes the negativity people throw at her and turns it into fuel to be better. I highly recommend this book to Rousey fans, anyone struggling with things in their life. This book will have you laugh cry and motivated to be the best version of you.
“Life is a fight from the minute you take your first breath till your last”
My fight your fight is the story of Ronda Rousey’s domination in Judo, MMA and her fight to get there as told by sisters Ronda Rousey and Maria Burns- Ortiz. From the moment she was born, Ronda Rousey has been fighting for her life. Born with the umbilical cord around her neck and not breathing, she was told she wouldn’t make it. Ever since that moment she has been determined to prove everyone wrong. Not being able to speak until she was three and dealing with her father’s suicide, Rousey found comfort in Judo with her mother (form of Japanese martial arts). It was Judo that would lead Rousey to become a world champion and go to the Olympics not once but twice, in which she became the first American female to medal in. Under the guidance of her mother she pushed through broken feet, knees and many unthinkable injuries earning her the nickname “Rowdy” that she still uses today. No matter how much she won or achieved it was never enough. Rousey wanted to be the best; needed to be the best which tore a wedge between her and her family. After living out of her car and giving up Judo for a year Rousey decided to head back into the gym this time for a different sport, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Without the support of everyone she loved, Rousey was determined to prove to them there was a place for women in the MMA and she would be the person to take it there. While fighting Semi Pro for Strikeforce she caught the attention of UFC owner Dana White and became the first women to be signed to the UFC, where she is currently the undefeated Bantamweight champ and has continued to expand MMA for women everywhere.
This book is not just for UFC fans but for every person who was told they would never accomplish something in their life. Ronda Rousey is a woman who has never been handed anything in life, she pushes and sweats and bleeds till she gets what she wants. You will laugh, cry and wondering just how anyone would be able to pick up and move in like she does. Rousey is a great example of making the most of a bad situation and never giving up. Never taking no for an answer, she is the best example of not letting other people dictate what you can or will achieve. When the president of the UFC says there will never be women fighting for him and a year later he personally signs you to be his first women fighter and later writes the forward for your book, she must have made a big impression. People like Rousey are great examples that life doesn’t always give you the best hand but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the best outcome and come out on top. Reading my fight your fight will make you want to chase after dreams you didn’t even know you had and not give up until you achieve them.
