All I've retained from reading the trilogy are all the different variants for the word bitch used throughout the series. To save you the trouble they are: bitchtress, bitchington, bitching-troll, bitchiness, bitchling. It's 3 books, but basically the same story, you read one you read the other 2. I am tired.

I enjoyed the book, but the writing style gets very repetitive.

I will be reading this again, later on. I think the narrator ruined this for me and I was super super lost in the world building and details. I will begin with book one in the trilogy and read it physically and see if that helps. I got to 50% and just need to set it aside, as the narration was too distracting to focus on the story.

At Death’s Door is the third book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s “Deadman’s Cross” series. Overall, I enjoyed this book. The character dialogue is sassy and entertaining. I enjoyed seeing my favorite characters back again as well as those featured in the Dark-Hunter series. I will warn readers who are still relatively new to Kenyon’s writing that the beginning of the book can be a bit hard to follow, especially if you are not familiar with the characters or the situations. Kenyon throws a lot at the reader at once. The information can feel a little disjointed and all over the place. In addition to the characters and plot, the beginning of the book seems a little bogged down with internal monologues. If this is not necessarily your thing and you prefer to get right to the thick of things, I suggest pushing through. This information defines the characters motives while providing the reader with a bit of background information but can be a bit slow to get through. While not my favorite of Kenyon’s books, I felt this was a good conclusion to the series. In true Kenyon fashion, the story is full of conflict, demons, fighting, action, and romance. This in itself is sure not to disappoint fans.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to take one last trip on the Sea Witch with At Death's Door.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This review kills me to write, and I've put it off for some time. I am a huge fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon and for one of her books to just totally fall short for me was devastating. I was really looking forward to this conclusion to the Deadman's Cross series.

The biggest thing that sticks out for me about this book is how many times we have long, unnecessary diatribes about the suffering the two main characters have endured. How everyone in their life has done them wrong and terrorized them their whole lives. Hearing the character's back story makes sense. But having it take up most of the book was just too much. It took up time that we could have been having adventures and new stuff happening. I found myself shaking my head every time we rehashed Valynda's and Xuri's stories.

Also, after following the author on social media, I felt like some of her real life experiences were being brought into this story. It was interesting to hear how the situations were handled by the characters.

There was some good action scenes, and the Malachai is an ever present danger, gathering his troops to take on the world, but I just felt there was so much "poor me" from the main characters, that it swallowed up all the short bursts of action we did get.

I do enjoy seeing Acheron and Thorn in the early days. We even get a bit of Simi which is always fun. The story leads us to New Orleans so we get to see New Orleans start up as the main site for the Dark Hunters.

It hurts me to say there was little I enjoyed in At Death's Door. It was a story that I debated giving up on many times. This is just my opinion and you could very well have a different one after reading. I'd really like to hear what you liked or did not like about this story. This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

Overall, I found the series to be o.k., kinda disappointed. The characters, most of them are great, new and old, but it's the storylines that I struggle with, this one especially, it seemed the majority of the book was about Val complaining over and over and over about the unfairness of life and betrayal by loved ones. Given all that's going on in the authors real life, it sure felt that it bled over and into this story. This could have been sooo good and the characters I love the most make an appearance and we get some peeks into their lives, the story with Jaden and Jared and Savitar are way way way overdue in the Dark Hunter world, but I didn't care for Val though the straw poppet doll is really imaginative, and I liked Xuri, the pirate/Caribbean lore is fascinating and fun. Dark Hunters is my very favorite series of all time, and the CON is /was so much fun. I hope the authors personal life is on the way to healing because I do think it's meshing with her writing, and how could it not be, I just have found the couple last books missing all the stuff that made them over the top and apart from others. The one thing I really liked is we get to see how New Orleans becomes home for this world. The Dark Hunter and the spin offs world is unlike any other, as are all it's characters, and given the number of books and the huge world within, some books will be better than others. I will always love them and the people in them. I'm really looking forward to the next Dark Hunter which I read is not till 2021, I don't know if that will change but maybe it's for the best, the real world can sometimes kick your ass but when you make your way back, you can stand stronger than ever before.

Sucks that this was only a trilogy... But still good, none the less.

Another winner by the Author Goddess. At Deaths Door brings the Deadmen Series to a close and we see why the Dark Hunters set up headquarters in NOLA. This book is typical Sherrilyn Kenyon (McQueen) with plenty of sarcastic back and forth as well as the ever beautiful poetic wisdoms we all love about them. I only hope this is not the last book she produces.
