Il y a une jeunesse et une honnêteté dans ce roman qui est carrément charmante. Ils disent que Mademoiselle Sagan n'avait que 17 ans quand elle l'a écrit!
C'est un bon choix pour les étudiants français intermédiaires.

Credit due on writing and publishing it by 18, and I like that the narrator is completely self involved, but the story is so dull and the characters are one dimensional.

The only way I could have ~liked~ this book was if I had read it as a teenager in Paris in the 60's whilst smoking cigarettes and being a obnoxious and pedantic little bastard just for the sake of it.

Unabated hedonism has its price...
There are some beautiful turns of phrase here from such a young author (Sagan was 17 when she wrote this) but it really is very hard to empathise with a class of folk who are ludicrously wealthy, superficial and bored, swanning about the south of France on holidays attempting to find love or play at some idea of love. It is an amusing tale at times however and, at a mere 120 or so pages, not one that will take a huge amount of one's time to get through if the subjects of the novella prove tiresome.

I now want to go sailing in the south of France. This book was very enjoyable - well written, especially for a teenager, although the main character is a bit unbelievably shallow or light when it comes to taking actions which are likely to have serious consequences. Maybe it is an accurate portrayal by an 18 year old French girl of how some 17 year olds act and make decisions, and just seems trivial because I am now an old man... Very good though and I ought to have read it years ago.
