I've only ever watched the show and movie of this, the novel is certainly different and I am very sad that there isn't a proper ending to this.

Mostly cute, but ending a children's book on a cliffhanger, then NOT providing a sequel, is a special kind of cruelty.
I finished this last night and legit thought I’d gotten a defective copy. Because it literally has no ending. It just stops mid-quest.
And yet, turns out...that is the ending. Um...wut?!
A few lol moments here, and that’s the only reason it gets a second star. Otherwise a meandering read without much of a point (but a whole lot of inconsistencies and bad attitudes).

Just finished reading this to my 4 year old. A delight from start to finish!
Another good read aloud! I couldn't believe that I hadn't read it before...although I had an aversion to reading books with boys as the main characters in my younger days, so that may account for it.
My favorite words... "Swamps where cedars grow and turtles wait on logs but not for anything in particular; fields bordered by crooked fences broken by years of standing still; orchards so old they have forgotten where the farmhouse is." Beautiful!

I read this with R, only remembering bits and pieces of it from when I read it. I really didn't like it much. And all R cared about was Margalo.
Ugh. This was selected for One School - One Book at my children's elementary school and once again, I was reminded how much I really don't care for this book.
