Revisiting childhood books as an adult is interesting and in a way unfair. To suspend belief that a mouse can be treated as a child in a human family is much easier when a child.  As an adult this reads weird but still charming.

Very charming.

Not a favorite for me or the kids. We all enjoyed the first half of the book and the kids were even laughing out loud at points. Then the book takes a strange turn as Stuart runs away to find a bird. It ends bizarrely with no resolution. I'm only giving three stars because of the beginning. We'll probably just go watch the movie...*sigh*

If you're going to read a children's chapter book about a mouse who can talk to humans, I would suggest not this one but Beverly Cleary's The Mouse and the Motorcycle. I have read aloud to my children both that one and Stuart Little in the past 6 months, and there is a clear winner in this niche. When we finished this book, my kids wanted to know about George, the human child from the story. He wasn't even mentioned in the latter half of the book, and I don't think my kids identified with or even liked Stuart.

This book is terrible. Stuart is a pouty jerk. The girl was willing to have a fun time and he was just pouty and stupid. And it doesn't actually have an ending. It seems like the author just stopped writing and never finished but it got sent to the publishers accidently. I expected so much more because I love Charlotte's Web so much.
adventurous

Very cute children's book with Stuart going on many mini adventures. Only downside is it ended abruptly
