This is the first book that ever blew my mind - by far my favorite children's novel. One thing I look for in a book, I've realized, is a knockout ending - a book better have a good payoff.
I don't want to spoil the ending here, but when my ten-year-old self got there, I couldn't believe it. How could E.B. White leave it like that? How can he leave so much unanswered? Moreover, how could he do that and still have it be so powerful and work so effectively?
I still am moved every time I read the last few pages (and sometimes still cry. That's right. I'm a sensitive, modern, secure man), and the last sentence may be my favorite in literature - better than "'Tis a far, far better thing I do...."

I remember liking this book a couple years ago, but I just don't like it now.

Charlotte's latest bedtime book. She proclaimed it beautiful, but in need of more chapters. I totally thought the same thing when I was her age. :^) she's sad now that it's over.
The first half of this book was SO cute! Silly me thought this was a book about a mouse. It is not. It is a book about a human boy who just happens to LOOK like a mouse! Adorable, right? The beginning was very sweet and I enjoyed it, but the end just... happens. Right in the middle of his adventures. It just stops. That was disappointing, as I would have really liked a resolution, especially as he was on a mission, and we never get to see the completion? I feel like if you read this to a child, they would be asking, "What happened next?" leaving you saying "I have no idea". This is a bummer because the first half was so promising. Beginning 4 stars. Ending 2 stars.
Stuart Little is born into a family of humans, but is only a few inches tall and looks like a mouse. Stuart has many adventures in his life, whether it be sailing on the pond or getting stuck in the refrigerator. He falls in love with a bird, Margalo, and when she leaves the house one day, Stuart sets off to find her.
I think this book is appealing to children because it is told in a very straightforward yet funny matter. There is not a lot of extra detail or explanation; the story is very action-driven. I like that each chapter seems to be a different hurdle or adventure that Stuart overcomes or journeys toward. It is funny to hear of all the little adjustments and tools Stuart needs to get by in a full sized human world, and kids could definitely use their imaginations to picture these tiny things.

Victor’s first chapter book!!! Definitely some things that don’t seem to age well, but Victor loves the chapter where he gets tossed into the garbage truck. We have read that one several times.
This was our first chapter book read aloud. I enjoyed it immensely at parts, but found the plot to drag quite a bit toward the end. I don't remember it being so unfinished as a child. Also I feel as though Stuart goes from a courageous mouse to a bitter frusterated one. But Ransom loved it and seemed to track with at least the major moments.
