I suspect that I could have saved myself some time and just watched the TED talk, but this gave me some good food for thought. I felt seen in some of the descriptions of struggling with boredom after a few years of doing something.
How To Be Everything - A Guide For Those Who (Still) Don’t Know What They Want To Be When They Grow Up
Emilie Wapnick
Honestly, this is probably the most validating book I’ve every read. If you have many skills, talents, interests, and side projects that you enjoy doing - you may be a multipotentialite.
I feel inspired to carve my own way into this mad world!
Emilie Wapnick is a fantastic author and entrepreneur.
5/5 and then some

2.5 ⭐️ - i thought this book was fine. it's an adult practical hand guide to the pop-science sibling of [b:Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World|41795733|Range Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World|David Epstein|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1550048292l/41795733._SY75_.jpg|65183769] to explore different talents and apply those into a job for yourself. the summaries in this book give you the majority of the info you need, and it was a bit tedious for what it could be.
The title is not an exact fit for what the book is about but hey, a title's got to grab people's attention and sell, sell, sell amiright? Luckily I saw her TED talk a while back and knew what she was writing about. Interesting and rather thought provoking stuff in the book. Great validation for those of us who find one 40+ hour a week in just one job enough to make you start questioning your sanity.
Not much new information here. I prefer Refuse to Choose.
This guide was a helpful way of reframing how I think about careers and skill sets. There are some exercises to aide in figuring out what kind of work order would suit you best, simultaneous jobs or one after the other or a circular pattern of jobs. It's a book I'd recommend to anyone who's ever felt stressed about having an abundance of interests and worried about ways to incorporate all of them into your life: I know that I felt better for reading this one.
This book and it's author are wonderful! Her ideas and the problems she discusses hit home for me and resonate deeply.
A good book for people who don't have a single passion in life and want to pursue a variety of interests that may change over time. The author describes this way of being and gives many real life examples, and offers advice on how to live life as a "multipotentialite." There is an index, and some great appendices - for example, a list of fields that combine multiple domains of knowledge and expertise. I felt the author missed the boat by not including 'going back to school' more prominently as a strategy but otherwise it was a quick read and I liked it.
~4 stars
I (mostly) really liked this book because this is me -- one generation older than the author -- who has been called a job hopper.
"Mostly" because sometimes the writing could have been a bit tighter, and personally, I think that this might have been better in a workbook format.
Overall I enjoyed the book (and audiobook -- Allyson Ryan's narration is bright and excellent!), and I plan to work through the exercises this evening because I need to shake things up!
