I thought this book was so tender! I read it in almost a day and really appreciated it. I already really liked the authors’ other books and the best friend to lovers plot intrigued me; it also made me think of Casey McQuinston’s the Pairing, which I really loved for how it helped me give language to some of my own past feelings around this trope.

I can understand others’ feedback around the fight, I felt confused but also appreciated how it was explored briefly as an over-reaction, and also resonated with the reflection of not understanding one’s reaction but still feeling big emotions around trust. Also having a non-binary character with the exploration of using they and she pronouns was so cool to experience as well as them being fat, I just loved this representation! And I loved the little jokes with the boyfriend, I really loved how tender he was in trying and also that the book explored people pleasing and enmeshment for *both* characters, that felt really important in exploring queer relationships. Really grateful for this read!

While this was an entertaining read, I felt that it just didn’t hit in the same way that Meryl Wilsner’s other books have.

I’m not overly a fan of best friends to lovers but I thought that Ginny & Elsie made a cute couple, and I loved seeing them all loved up on Elsie’s honeymoon.  However, the amount of pining was enough to choke on and we’re not dealing with miscommunication; we’ve moved into an avoidance of communication territory.  The way they dealt with it worked out in the end as they did need to spend time working out what they each wanted, but it was just so frustrating to see them not talk to each other for so long.

Wilsner’s writing is always a joy to read, even when the characters are being annoying.  This is probably their spiciest book yet, but it did start to get repetitive.

I liked  the pacing and the character building right up to the climax. The third act breakup reason was a little lame and really made Elsie seem myopic. Also, the resolution happened very quickly at the end of the book which was very different pacing wise from the rest of the third act.
