charming book, fun beach read! excellent enby lesbian rep we love to see it!!!
3.5✨ aka 3 star good!
loved so much about this. the Midwestern rep was excellent. of course they write fantastic non-binary rep - ginny is such a great character! and I love their growth into queer community but tbh was a tad confused as to why they hadn't explored that more yet 🤔 the chemistry was mid and Elsie kind of drove me nuts....while also reminding me of myself in ways I didn't want to necessarily investigate 🙈 but overall it fell short of 4 stars for me because I wasn't sure I really believed the romance, esp on Elsie's side 🤷🏼♀️

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I couldn't put this down. I enjoyed the premise, and it's refreshingly different from other queer romcoms. There is good nonbinary representation. The end was a bit slow for me, but overall it was a cute read. Pretty spicy too. 3.5/5

I have mixed feelings about this book, so here we go.
To begin, this book was quite a bit of fun. The chemistry between the two characters was clear, there was plenty of diversity, and the spicy parts were delightful.
The plot is straight forward- pansexual girl breaks up with her fiancé because he decided to plan their wedding for her, and because they can’t get a refund on the honeymoon, she takes her childhood best friend, a nonbinary masc lesbian.
This book is strongest when it sticks to that simple plot, in my opinion. The development of friends to lovers, with all of the angst about ruining the relationship, is fairly well done, although it feels a bit rushed at points. The smut is delightful, with plenty of cringe free dirty talk and even a bit more variety than I see in most sapphic books- we get some rimming and a little consensual degradation.
The characters themselves are a bit cookie cutter, and there’s not much outstanding personality to be had, which is partly why I think it’s strongest when it’s just focusing on the smut, not attempting an emotional plot. It can just be spicy nonsense. Let it be spicy nonsense.
The context of our main characters, set in a small town in Minnesota, is very sweet- a small town hardware store and farmer’s market being quite prominent.
In my personal opinion, the third act breakup in this book feels very forced, as if the author needed to have a montage of her characters “finding themselves outside of the relationship” to make sure we didn’t think they were shallow, which… it works out in the end, it’s very cute, but I really think the book would have been just as better with all the angst taken out and just left us with the couple going from friends to lovers and having sex. I’m sure plenty of people would disagree with me, and I’m usually a huge fan of all of the angst, but in this case it just felt pointless when we could have had more of them being cute together.
That being said, I enjoyed the whole book, and if you want something spicy and very cute, this is your book.
