I love this author and I was so excited when they gave him the Nobel prize! I am not the kind of person that gets really excited about celebrities like actors… But man do I have groupie tendencies when it comes to writers. And I subscribe to one of the longest running a literary lecture series in the US so when I saw that Ishiguro's Nobel lecture was available in an audiobook… I was like yes please… And thank you! Probably not a great listen if you're not a great fan but what do I know what you like!

Ishiguro crafts his fiction with so precision, it’s no surprise he also excels at personal speeches. This is about his reflections on novels, Japan, music, being young and in love and having an empty room with just a mattress on the floor. It’s really beautiful and he articulates so well why, in my opinion, books will always have their place. This is 40 mins long and I can’t recommend the listen enough. So peaceful.

Very good when talking about his upbringing, his time in Norfolk (any writer talking about my home county gets a free star) and what influenced his writing style (e.g. how a fever induced reading of Proust informed Remains of the Day). Then it kinda peters out.
