Monkey was reading a book, when Jackass (donkey) asked him what he had in his hands. Monkey told him it was a book. Donkey was quite puzzled. Donkey proceeded to ask Monkey questions like…does it scroll down? do you blog with it? can it text? Tweet? Etc. Monkey at this point was irritated with Donkey. Monkey put the book in Donkey’s hands and showed him it was a book. Donkey finally understood what a book was.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, its superman…No, It’s a Book! It’s a Book is a witty, fun, smart, comical…book. With all the new, fancy electronic technology at our fingertips today, Mr. Smith reminds us that sometimes it is nice to just read a plain, old fashion book. Yes, I am talking about one that you actually pick up, open and turn the pages. The concept for this book was great. I like that it was geared towards modern times and what is currently happening now in the present. The illustrations were good as well. Both children and adults will like this book.

It's a book is a story that is a commentary on a typical interaction between an older generation and a younger generation. For example, the technological divide between generations is parodied with a monkey being the voice of reason to a tech savvy jackass. For the illustrations we all had different interpretations of what the animals were. For example some thought it was a penguin and rabbit others thought it was a bear and monkey. The idea of size and age differences was also interesting.

I LOLed through this one. Not so sure my kiddos would get it, but it's just so perfect for our technological times.

This is a hilarious book. I would however recommend changing up some language for a younger audience.

I work with kids and I thought it was ironic seeing as they can all work iPads and are under the age of 6. Love it!

Great humor.

Although I like the premise of this book, my complaint is the same as everyone else's, that the term jackass just isn't necessary. This book is shelved in our 3-5 section at work and I know I wouldn't read this to a child that young. I much prefer the board book version called "It's A Little Book" that ends with the word "silly" instead.

This picture book made me laugh out loud. I have been hearing about it for a while and am glad that I finally read it.

However, just like many of my friends here on Goodreads, I am not sure the audience and I actually chose to put it as teens. And it isn't because the donkey is called a jackass, it is because the humor might go over the head of a younger child and explaining the humor would just take away from it.

Great book that is a remind that, in the time of phones and tablets and other "devices", a book is a book is a book. And they are great.
