Loved seeing Lindiwe’s personality evolve from a nervous young woman to a curious, feisty deathless phantom. The slow burn made so much sense as Weldir does not understand humans or their world and was busy building tenebris while doing his other god tasks AND trying to figure her out. All the baby duskwalkers are so dang cute. It made me feel bad that they are all so separate from her once they gain their skulls. Ready for the next book where hopefully more overlap with the duskwalker brides!

Opal has done it again but even harder. Oh my this one made me cry. Sure we know the history behind a lot of what happens but seeing it from Lindiwe and Weldir’s perspectives is totally different. Although Weldir is a demigod and thousands of years old, his ignorance of human life makes him seem cold to Lindiwe. She’s stuck at 22/23 and he initially seems more like 16. With the more souls he eats, the more mature he becomes and with it their relationship blooms. I cannot wait to see their views on what happens next.

While I can appreciate that there is so much backstory that needs to be worked through to make sense of the world, this book was way too long and the first half bored me to tears. I love the series but this one was not a favorite for me
