This was the wildest ride I've ever been on and I didn't want to get off.

About halfway through I thought I had a solid idea of what was happening and what was to come but boy was I wrong. This was hands down one of the best thrillers I've ever read. I've probably said that before but I really mean it this time.

The characters were complex and the plot was amazing. There were so many twists and turns but not an ounce of it was confusing. For awhile I wasn't sure that there was a character in particular that I was rooting for but everything unfolded so perfectly that I was left loving a few of the characters and wishing I could have seen that side of them earlier.

10 OUT OF 5 STARS. Wish I could read this for the first time again.

DNF - had to keep coming back to this book to give it a chance but gave up about 50 or so pages in.

The story is not gripping. It jumps around far too much. And there are lot of the characters especially the main one are very dislikable.

Solid 3.5 stars - The story is about a wealthy married couple, Simon and Vicky. Simon has a hefty trust fund that will be shared with Vicky on their upcoming tenth anniversary. With 21 million dollars soon being shared by husband and wife, tensions are high between both people in the marriage. The story opens at the scene of a murder, and throughout the book you are asking yourself “Who killed her and why?” The killer seems obvious, but is it? As secrets unfold, you are left until the final few pages before being sure of the answer. Can someone really commit the perfect crime?

The characters are all unlikeable, which is bound to happen in a story where everyone is after money and revenge. Who is the scammer and who is being scammed? Who is the criminal and who is the victim? Is it possible for two people to scam each other simultaneously? Whose relationship is real? One minute you think someone is getting away with a crime, and the next thing you know, the other characters were already 10 steps ahead, ready to be the one in charge next.

I do like that the reader is not always “in the know” even when reading from the first person point of view of some of the characters. The characters are almost lying to the reader, and I have never read a book like that before. I really liked that aspect about it!

I went into this book with high expectations, since it received so many 5 star reviews. So many readers said it was the most unpredictable and shocking book they’ve read. I kept waiting and waiting for something shocking to happen. At page 300, I became skeptical. I will say, I was shocked by a few things, but I really didn’t care too much about the surprises. I also don’t think the book was as unpredictable as was let on by other reviews. I for sure figured out several things before it was out right stated in the book. I definitely did not suspect EVERY twist, and I give major credit to the author for constructing such an involved and connected plot with no plot holes or things that didn’t seem realistic. The author definitely understands the law, police investigations, and scammers.

In the end, it was an entertaining story, and it left me thinking about how many crimes in real life could have totally been set ups, and we would never know. However, I was not left sitting and thinking about how shocking the ending was, which is normally what I do after reading a thriller.
