On page 275 now, I sense something big will happen will happen involving Bitty but too many possibilities for now.

Finished! My 1st guess on the positive side was right about Bitty! I got a similar feel for this book as I did for The King. It's a continuation and a great transition book for the next BDB story. Definitely interested in seeing more of Assail and Layla as their stories develop with their big life changes. Did not see that twist with the Scribe Virgin and will be theorizing any new characters to see if they fit the bill. As much as you don't like him for trying to kill Wrath I want good things for Xcor and the Band of Bastards as well. Even if they never fight with the BDB, a truce of sorts would be great too.

Having only listened to the first 4 books in this series a couple years ago, I wasn't sure if I would be able to keep up with everything going on. Thankfully, J.R. Ward provides enough background about the series, brotherhood, and Rhage and Mary's story, that felt I never felt overwhelmed or bogged down by backstory.

There is a lot going on in this book. Action, suspense, mystery, lots of sexy times, and of course, humor. In true Ward fashion, she weaves it all together seamlessly by the end. Speaking of the end, I was not prepared for the kick in the feels I got. These are scary-ars, potty mouth vampires for goodness sake. They're not supposed to make me cry! But they did. I blame Bitty.

I do think this can be read as a stand alone, but I also see the appeal of having read the rest of the series first. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thank you, Berkley NAL for providing me with a finished copy--which is GORGEOUS--in exchange for an honest review.

Loved their story! And knowing that Layla and Xcor are the next?
I am getting very excited!

Love Rage and Mary and Bitty
emotional lighthearted medium-paced
adventurous emotional hopeful fast-paced

5 stars for the pet dragon!

See this is when things get sad. When I finish the book and know that I will never be able to read it for the first time ever again.
BUT it was everything I hoped for and sooo much more and really there is nothing like seeing the original brothers.
Thank you J.R. Ward

......

Oh gosh I just realized I have to wait another year for a new book: '(

A new Rhage book?! Wot?? @_@

I think this is a good way to introduce and delve into the next chapter of the main casts lives.

Ward has been one of my favorite authors since I first picked up Dark Lover about 9 years ago. Lover Awakened has been my favorite book in the BDB series this whole time, but the title of "favorite BDB book" might now have to be shared with The Beast. I couldn't put the book down, kept flipping from page to page, and was utterly devastated when I finished it.

Of course the brother with the biggest heart is going to want a child, but since Mary is infertile where will this lead their relationship? Ward gives a perfect example of how even though things look perfect on the outside, things aren't always as they seem. You got to feel for Assail and even start to really like him, and you also see that V is one of the most selfless and caring brothers (in his own hard way of course). You really get to understand the struggle of being with the love of your life, and, yet, still not being completely happy. Accepting your partner as they are is easier said than done, but when Rhage shows Mary that her not being able to bear children doesn't stop his love for her, their love blossoms. So many life lessons to learn from this book.

The only thing that could have been better is if Z would've had more appearances, but I feel like he should be a major part in all books lol. I also wish she would have given us readers at least a chapter on how Trez is recovering from Selena and how iAm's married life is going. You can't break my heart like that in a book and not have any semblance of a follow up in the succeeding book. But other than that, absolutely cannot wait for the next one. Kudos to you, Ward.
