Weaponized pettiness for at least 100 pages where they resent each other and instead of just having literally one conversation, they just simmer in the resentment and then see who can be a more terrible person to the other. Pass.
“the word love feels like nicholas. it’s filled all the way up with him. one day that word will evolve, filling up with the people we bring into this world together. i can’t wait to see what kind of magic we spin with that word, how many shapes it will take. i can’t wait to see how many memories emerge from our decision to stand right here, right now, and take each other for better or worse. as far as that goes, i say: bring it on. we already know each other’s worst. we’ve battled right through it and come out the other side unbreakable. there will inevitably be arguments, concessions, and peace treaties drawn up in spilled blood, sweat, and tears. we’re going to have to choose each other, over and over, and be each other’s champion, never letting ourselves forget the good whenever we’re stuck in a patch of bad. it’s going to be work. but let me tell you something about nicholas benjamin rosefield: he’s worth it.”

I've heard others say a main character is whiny and annoying about some of my favorite books and never understood. After suffering half way through this, I understand. The main character is such a brat! I couldn't finish it.

I wasn't sure about this book when I first started reading it. I found the main female character very unlikeable, which can be done well, but I've had some bad experiences with unlikeable characters recently. However, I'm glad I stuck with it. The author takes the reader on a journey through a broken relationship that is subtle and beautiful. The ending was pitch perfect. This novel was like nothing I've read before and on top of that it's fun and lighthearted while still reaching depths that most books like it don't usually reach. Highly recommend.
(Also, Love is All I Am by Dawes came on shuffle during the last chapter and it was perfection.)

i wish nicholas’s mom wasn’t painted to be such a villain and had a redemption arc :( shes just a girl :( but this trope is soooo cute and i loved seeing them realize how to love each other in a new and healthy way

This was a refreshing read after a couple duds. I've gotten used to romance feeling very formulaic but this subverted my expectations more than a few times. This couple is pretty toxic but its playful enough to not bother me--it's also the point of the book so what can I really say?
Despite how awful these two treat each other at one point, they're very charming and I feel like the explanation and growth of these characters drew me in. I ended up liking them both which was unexpected.
When you're in a long-term relationship, it's very likely that you will eventually hit a rough patch and this book gave me hope. I don't think I could be as patient as Naomi and I don't think I'd ever let my relationship get to this point but, the truth is, do we ever really know how bad it is before we're in the thick of it?
I really enjoyed this book. Best RomCom I've read in a while.
