This was a refreshing read after a couple duds. I've gotten used to romance feeling very formulaic but this subverted my expectations more than a few times. This couple is pretty toxic but its playful enough to not bother me--it's also the point of the book so what can I really say?
Despite how awful these two treat each other at one point, they're very charming and I feel like the explanation and growth of these characters drew me in. I ended up liking them both which was unexpected.
When you're in a long-term relationship, it's very likely that you will eventually hit a rough patch and this book gave me hope. I don't think I could be as patient as Naomi and I don't think I'd ever let my relationship get to this point but, the truth is, do we ever really know how bad it is before we're in the thick of it?
I really enjoyed this book. Best RomCom I've read in a while.

will i ever rate a straight adult romance book more than 3 stars? stay tuned to find out

i liked this book quite a lot though and i had fun with it! i will say that i feel like i was promised more mutual toxicity than was actually delivered. the way i see it, nicholas' crimes (making his fiancee wash the dishes everyday, expecting her to always make dinner, not standing up to his mother when she treated naomi TERRIBLY, being unforgivably rude to her coworkers who are also her friends, belittling and disrespecting her life and the job that she clearly loves, emotionally neglecting her for months, buying a house without asking or even TELLING her about it, etc.) were objectively worse than naomi's crimes (being a little bit mentally checked out of her relationship because of her fiancé's aforementioned crimes, some relatively harmless pranks, finally defending herself against her genuinely abusive mother-in-law-to-be). but it's whatever. he did mostly redeem himself to me by the end of the book so it's okay

i also thought a lot while reading this that it would make a good romcom film and apparently they ARE making it into a film currently, so that's a win for me! penn badgley is going to probably kill it

Was this good, cute, and fun? Yes.
Was this also kind of boring? Yes.

One minute they strongly dislike each other then the next they love each other????? huhhhhh??? ??
And then  everything magically works out for them???  Because they finally opened their mouths and ears and heard what they both need to work on for a stronger relationship???
WHY DIDN’T THEY COMMUNICATE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THEIR DOWNFALL!!!!!
