What an absolute brilliant book! Loved it! This was the first time for me listening to this author and narrator, I can not wait for Christian White's next book, I think anything he writes will be just as brilliant, I might have just added another Mystery writer to my favourites list. Never once was this story predictable or what I expected!
Now the narrator she was just amazing, I don't think I have the words to convey how well this book has been narrated, her voice kept me captivated and wanting more, if it wasn't for sleep I would have completed this book in one go. I now have a new favourite narrator! Katherine Littrell's accents was spot on, I actually wonder what her nationality is as she could pass for both. The switch between characters and accents, Brilliant! I have never experienced such awesomeness!
I would recommend this book to absolutely anybody who wants a good mystery read, and if you want to spoil your ears definitely get yourself the audiobook!

Page turner, but not very believable final chapters. I feel that reading this book is a bit of a time waster, or a way to spend time if you are stuck somewhere with nothing better to do.
Well written, as I kept reading to find out what happened. I feel that the final chapters could have had a better plot line. Reminded me of other thrillers which start very promising but degenerate into wholly incredible and fantastical stories which lack authenticity and seem totally implausible - step dad could have told Kim , as soon as the brother contacted Kim. 2.5 stars rounded to 3 stars, because of authors honest afterword about hoping we don't feel short changed - I think I do feel short changed!

Cannot believe this is Christian Whites debut novel! This book was addicting and had me eagerly turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. What if one day at work you were sitting at a table enjoying a break , before your next photography class was to begin. A complete stranger comes up to you and informs you that they believe your Sammy Went, a missing toddler who went missing in a small town in Kentucky 28 years previously. This is what happened to Kim Leamey. At first Kim brushes it off but when she begins to dig into her past she finds her stepfather Dean definitely knows something he’s not telling her. Was her whole past a lie and the people she thought were her parents her kidnappers? So Kim finds herself in Manson Kentucky searching for clues as to who she really is and what happened to Sammy all those years before. She meets her brothers and sisters while there and seems like their childhood was full of disappointment and hurt and their mother was a firm believer of the local church called the church of the light. The church of the light has a firm hold on the small town and everyone’s life. As the story begins to unfold it seems everyone is hiding something and in a small minded town like Manson some of the secrets can be very deadly and may be better off being left in the past. As Sammy/ Kim digs into the towns history it begins to put her life in danger will she be able to find the answers to her past and discover who she really is and what happened that hot summer afternoon when she was taken? This narrative alternates between the present and past seamlessly and your quickly drawn into Sammy/ Kim’s life and everyone else that was in her life. I love how the book took you into everyone’s life and their secrets it just added to the story. I fell for each character and found myself completely drawn into their life story as well. This book was amazing and I will highly recommend this book to anyone that is into psychological thrillers and mysteries!
This was a solid read. I liked that the plot started from the very beginning and I’m always a fan of the dual timelines. The themes of the Pentecostal snake cult were equally intriguing as dubious. White was able to write some very unlikable characters and everyone was rounded out with flaws and quirks. I’m not sure I particularly connected the main protagonist, I felt like I never really got to know who she was outside of this mystery. But I think that could actually be the point; the fragmented sense of self and identity. That she was unknowable to herself as much as she was to the readers.
