This is a fairly honest account of the life of Mel C., a.k.a. "Sporty Spice", one of the Spice Girls.

This book traces Mel C's life from her birth outside Liverpool to her life in the run-up to lockdown, though a good hunk of the book is focused on the Spice Girls. Some of the things I learned include:

The Spice Girls were only really in the public eye for a couple of years.

They were a manufactured band but contributed more to the music than I realised.

They were more involved in their management than I realised.

That the band's management played favourites, but the band members tried to stand up to it, to a degree.

It's generally pretty honest, and details a variety of aspects of her life, in some detail. This said there are some things that perhaps don't add up about her youth (if you're concentrating). I understand why they aren't addressed, but makes you wonder what else was glossed over, and was missed?

I didn't realize when I started reading this that Mel C is the last Spice Girl to write a book. Well, then! I appreciated that she chose to discuss things from her own viewpoint and not mud sling or gossip. It was an enjoyable book and I learned a lot about the beginnings of the Spice Girls, their inner dynamics and Mel C as a person.

I don't usually read Autobiographies but this was a must for me. I absolutely love Mel C and loved the spice girls when I was younger, she was always my favourite, with Mel B being a close second.

You never truly know what is behind the smiles and performances until you read a book like this. It's so sad what Mel C went through and I'm really glad she's stronger now.

The issues talked about in this book are things that should be widely talked about and I believe it is improving as the years go on but still it's not enough. Noone should ever be made to feel less than brilliant, we are all so unique and we should celebrate this not slate people for being a bit different or different to you anyway.

We never know what someone is going through, take Caroline Flack for example. It's just awful that these things happen and for Mel C to share her experiences and difficulties in this book is so brave and compelling.

I am definitely going to read Mel Bs autobiography now as well, Mel C touches on her book in this one.
