Something Wild & Wonderful is a quietly tremendous work of queer joy and resistance in the face of inhospitable landscapes (both terrain-wise and family-wise). It’s a book you have to listen closely to so you can heart it’s heart whispering its truths to you. It’s beautiful. Just so beautiful.

Once I started reading I couldn’t stop! I Kissed the rest of my tbr goodbye as I trekked hundreds of miles up the PCT with Alexei and Ben.

First, let’s formally declare that Alexei and Ben are now in the running for my favorite book couple! Their differences, their distinct personalities, their quirks?! Ugh. I melted. Truly.

Second, we have to discuss the wondrous setting and completely immersive details Kelly included in this one! I’ve only been to Seattle (East coast kid over here) so the attention to detail as the terrains shifted was truly remarkable a experience for me; I felt like I was trudging alongside these characters!

This book made me smile and feel all the feelings so so much.
Following Alexei & Ben fall in love and find peace with their demons was so beautiful. I truly just adored this book and will definitely be reading it again someday!

I’m only deducting .25 because a little bit of communication would have solved the first almost break up, but the resulting convo and getting back to each other part was so good that I’m not even that mad.
Alexi has been disowned by his homophobic shithead parents and his dealing with finding himself on the Pacific Crest Trail, where he keeps running into Ben, who is using the trail to take time to himself and figure out his future wants and process a family death and a shitty ex-bf.
Them continually finding each other and then walking together and being honest and open and growing and vulnerable is so gorgeous. These men are so sweet and perfect for each other omg.

I loved this book. Seeing Alexi and Ben find themselves on the trail and find love. It was so sweet.

I both listened to this on audiobook, and had the Kindle version, and while I listened to most of this book on audiobook, I think the narrator was the wrong choice. His voice was too childlike for 30 years old or almost 30 years old characters.

I really felt like this book was slow, but for some reason I kept wanting to read on and find out how Ben and Alexi get along on the trail. I think that getting multiple POV made it easier to follow along the story. Because even though some parts I found boring I always got a break from either Ben or Alexi.

All in all I thought it was a beautiful story, and I felt very very sad for Alexi and I only really started to get emotional near the 80% mark when they were separated from each other. Their journey back to each other was one of the most beautiful things I’ve read in a while.

I thought this was a very well written book and you can tell that the PCT and trail information was accurate interesting. I really enjoyed the story.

ERGHH such a good book, no notes! I seriously didn’t want to finish this book and would have been happy if it had more pages, so well written with touching emotional/ educational parts but also so fun and cute! I wish this was part of a series, I want more!
