Beautiful mix of deities coming to the story and showing a bit of themselves. The redemption story is cute and very interesting ideas stem here that will produce cool storylines in the next volumes.
I feel like I need to go back and amend my ratings for the first three volumes. Somehow they are all 5s, but I liked this Volume better than them? Is there a 5+ rating?
OMG, this pretty much blew my mind. Lucifer is pissed at Morpheus (who's been bullied into righting an old grudge against a girlfriend by his family) so he just GIVES Morpheus the key to Hell. So representatives from nearly every religion/culture show up to barter for the ownership of Hell. And the dead are reappearing on Earth because Lucifer emptied Hell before he closed it up. This is why Neil Gaiman tells great stories. Plus, the artists do amazing, amazing work.
Had to go out and buy Vols 5-7 in the DC comics Buy2Get1Free sale because I am really enjoying the Sandman series.

Morpheus inherits the realm of hell from the devil. The world order is derailed and hilarity takes over. Fairies, Norse gods, Egyptians, angels and demons all are candidates for rulers of hell in an amazingly original story arc.
I'm officially obsessed with this series. It just keeps being amazing. Following Dream along through all these different stories is something I will never get tired of.
As I delve deeper into the Sandman series I'm more and more impressed by how everything is connected. This feels like the first "real" volume where there are some stakes in the game, and where everything finally comes together in a cohesive way.
Spoiler
I admit I didn't like the ending, as 90% of the book felt like the buildup to something that just wasn't there at the end, but still, this was a fantastic read.
Love the premise and the build-up of the conundrum of what to do with Hell. Don’t love the literal deus ex machina solution. But there’s so much other good stuff in this that it’s still worth four stars despite the (in my mind) too easy solution.
One of the best volumes from the Sandman series. All of Sandman is amazing, but Season of Mists will always be my favorite because of the descriptions of the Endless, the crazy idea that Lucifer would quit being ruler of hell, and the fact that my first tattoo came from this story.
Seeing the whole original Sandman comics Lucifer quitting Hell storyline that inspired both of my favorite tv shows (Lucifer TV and the Sandman season 1) just made me relive everything I love about the emotions behind it, and I’d even say objectively the writing of Lucifer and their place in Hell and why they left is SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL in the original comics. Neil Gaiman literally is the person of remaking Lucifer’s character into one of the most popular complicated (TM) character in modern media. I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.
Cannot wait till Sandman s2 comes out and I GET TO SEE GWENDOLYN CHRISTIE VERSION OF LUCIFER IN THIS STORYLINE ON SCREEN. I think I will literally die.
