estimated finish date bc I forgot to update here. loved the illustrations as well as the interspersed paragraphs/anecdotes. steps for mending were very clear and offered suggestions for a variety of garments/items as well as potential variations that you could use to make it your own. would be great to have on any shelf for a reference book or to read cover to cover for some good reminders about the importance of taking care of what we have and that anything broken can be fixed.

I really really loved this book. Not just about mending but also connecting with the people and world around us, building community, and being more mindful and kind to the clothes we wear.
A beautiful book that serves not only as a guide to mending clothing but as the title describes, mending our lives.
Continuing to offer compassion in a world where natural resources have been taken for granted and less and less people are learning valuable skills due to convenience; they bring in honorable, imaginative, and playfully creative scopes to seeing the world--through the skill of mending.
The Montenegros offer practical ways of mending clothing and other items while discussing how this practice can translate to the larger world. Through a non judgmental lens, the Montenegro sisters bring the fast fashion industry, ecology of microplastics, and common waste under consideration for impactful change and new perspectives. The personal tone and highly respectable design of the cover, binding, and illustrations make this a book that you don't want to put down.

I have been trying to learn clothing mending, and I happened upon this book when looking for guides. I was definitely skeptical because more than anything I just wanted a guide, and this felt like it could be way too much self-help material.
I am SO glad I sprung for it. Holy cow. The amount of things I didn't even consider mending until reading this is wild. And it has every common mend you could ask for. AND every mend is laid out in very easy to follow illustrations!!! I am rearing to go. I will be a mending machine thanks to this book. The cute passages and illustrations between instructions are not at all too much and are quite sweet. I'm overall very impressed.
*Edit: My one note as I am actually using the guide is I wish it would have been spiral bound! It's difficult for me to keep the pages open to reference while going through the steps.*

A practical mending instruction book for beginners, an anti-fast-fashion effort, and an invitation to consider what else in your life can be repaired rather than disposed of. It was excellent!
A very practical yet also philosophical and sweet book.
