Dry

A drought in California causes people to go into survival mode & everything right & decent goes out the window. Alyssa & Garrett, along with their survivalist neighbor, fight to stay alive and find water. This book was in the same vein as The Worlds We Make trilogy by Megan Crewe, which was an underrated series. Smart teens have to navigate a world falling apart around them and struggle to keep their humanity. Highly recommend!

I wish the book had started with a normal day to introduce the characters before the change in setting, because that would’ve highlighted the development they had throughout the book.

Well that was an unsettling read... There are a lot of dystopians out there in YA novel land, but this one unraveled in a way that didn't seem at all fantastical.

A drought in Southern California leads to water suddenly disappearing in an event dubbed "The Tap-Out." The world slowly yet quickly unravels, turning neighbors against each other and creating "water-zombies," who can think of nothing except getting water, no matter the price. The book's main focus is on a group of teenagers trying to get to a preppers hidden bug-out, but there are vignettes of other characters and they add to the complexity of the choices. Some of things that people are willing to do for just a bottle of water are heartbreaking and painfully realistic.

This is by no means flawless, while the topic is deep the characters are a bit shallow. And the ending left me feeling "meh"
SpoilerIt was a bit too rosy and made the stakes of the book feel brushed under the rug in order to wrap this up cleanly
. That said it was 100% engrossing and unnerving. It definitely had me wanting to go out and buy enough bottled water to fill my entire apartment.

Thrilling yet informative almost apocalyptic story with a lovable cast of characters.

I really liked this book! My first Neal Shusterman book and definitely an eye-opening work of fiction about the possible scenarios of a severe drought situation. I found this book to be frightening! Realistic horror, I suppose.

Escogí el peor momento para leer este libro, pero, madre mía, qué pedazo de libro. La novela perfecta para ser trasladada a la pantalla y comer treinta paquetes de palomitas (y tus propias uñas, para calmar los nervios).
